Hi all.

I am convinced the best way to get the cables to the roof is up thru the snorkel BUT how do I thread the cable thru the snorkel? I really don't want to pull it apart. Are there any suggestions? By my reckoning there are three 90 degree turns plus the snorkel itself. I can use a magnet to thread a string thru the snorkel but how to get a steel washer on end of a piece of string to there ?

Thanx in advance. I have some dbl insulated 6mm to run thru there.

Bonz

This trick also works with long lengths of pipe also - just need to sticky tape the string to a ping pong ball to increase vacuum through tube

why worry with the vacuum cleaner? just poke it in the top of the snorkel and turn on the engine. the air cleaner will stop it entering the turbo, just don't let go of the other end otherwise you'll have to start again.

Hi Bonz

Mate of mine in a 79 series ute ran wiring for his roof spotlights through the snorkel and the wiring made a bit of noise whilst under way. Probably needs to be secured somehow to stop it flapping around.

Yes Bonz

Use to make a flapping sound inside the snorkel With it being on the drivers side
it annoyed the hell out of him. Being a ute we relocated the wiring through the cab and up behind the cab on the tray headboard

Bonz,
drop a string down the snorkel and then fish it out with a bent piece of wire. then attach the cable and feed/pull it up.

Either sika flex up the entry/exit holes or drill and tap holes and insert poly glands and locktite them in.

The other way is to run it in corrugated auto conduit cable tied to the outside of the snorkel.

Hope you have success.

Just make sure that you fuse your wiring [shouldn't have to tell you that]. Just had a mate drop his cruiser off at work after Kimberly trip, burnt out winch and wiring to inside remote switch, burnt out driving light wiring, burnt out diff locker and compressor wiring, and a few other things. All caused by a faulty winch remote switch. Are you going to mount a flat 7 pin plug on top of snorkel, if so make sure you bring the cable out below the snorkel head as rain water will run down the cable. As to the cable rattling in the snorkel stick big blobs of silastic on the cable about 300 mm apart before you pull it through. The string and ping pong ball is a great idea, some smart people around. See you in 2wks.

Murray

PS Use a plastic gland were you bring the cable out at the bottom
