Just read Kippae's blog regarding the sunset at
Karumba. The comment was made that " watching the sunset over the ocean is a rare expeience in Australia". Am enjoying reading the
blogs and don't mean to offend or upset anyone but would just like to remind Kippae and the rest of our members that those of us in Western Australia (which is believe it or not is part of Australia) can enjoy this experience every day. :-) LOL

Terry-didnt you know that WA isnt part of Australia, except when it comes to propping up semi bankrupt states and territories :-)
And just like the poms say someone is "sent to Coventry", on Neighbours and
Home and Away when they write a character out they have "moved to Perth"!

I would make one observation about WA....and this is a criticism of many WA State Govts of every colour really...and it has to do with the lack of funding for their wonderful National Parks. Down in the SW corner things a pretty good but in the NW not so IMHO. Considering that the vast majority of the wealth of WA comes from huge holes in the ground in the NW too much is deteriorating or just not being adequately resourced. My first ever trip to
Port Hedland was back in the early 1970s as a crew member on a Navy patrol boat....I loved the place then....I was back there a year ago and this have certainly changed. I was so looking forward to my visit but was a little let down with the state of the buildings and public
infrastructure (I know that a new hospital if finally being built now). There just didn't seem to be that wonderful sense of community that I had experience in the seventies.....maybe this is a fact of life with the FIFO approach to staffing mines.
I also felt that some money could be spent on the
Cape Range NP - as a back drop to
Ningaloo it is pretty ordinary really. Also the facilities in Karajini could be upgraded a little.
Now don't get me wrong I love remote and primitive
bush camping but where there are lots of people like
Cape Range and Karajini then the
infrastructure needs to be pretty good - otherwise it detracts from the beauty of the place. Perhaps the WA Gov could try and put the NW on the agenda over the coming few budgets and put some of that wealth back in the area from whence it comes.

The unfortunate fact for WA is that while we earn good wages and have high employment, the federal gov uses the GSTsystem to suck money away from here to other states. I believe around 60 something % comes back here.
Now the same is underway with the MRRT. In ground resources belong to the states but Mr Rudd seems to have found a way to channel it elsewhere, to prop up a deficient federal gov.
Hence its not so simple as WA has plenty of money so why cant it be done?
