Query about a Spot.

Hi all,

Recently purchased a Spot from the ExplorOz shop (thanks to all for excellent service).

After setting up my tracking account etc with their site everything works ok however being sure that i followed the steps on ExplorOz to be able to view tracks here i can't seem to find myself.

Have researched past threads for advice but have found nothing that helps.

If any Spot users can point me in the right direction your help would be appreciated then i'll get my better half to give me a slap on the back of the head for you when it turns out to be something obvious.

Smiley Bill.

Hi Smiley Bill
have been using SPOT for 3years and no problems looking at location on google.
I dont use tracking however all OK messages sent to the pre set email addresses and mobile nos give you an excellant view on google maps .
We send messages to our selves also so when we are in range can see where we have been.
Hope this info will assist you. Garny

Smiley Bill,
Works well for us -just be sure to take some spare lithium batteries with you. I needed to get some in Alice and when I went to use them a couple of days later they were duds! Recharged batteries are lucky to last a day when tracking
I had no issues setting up- only thing I can think of is to check you have set up the Spot page to share and then follow ExplorOZ instructions to the letter.
Good luck,
Ian

Hiya
Do you have the SPOT2??? Apparently they are more 'battery hungry' than the original SPOT. Haven't changed Lithium Batterys in our 'original' for 3 years.

G'day Wonbat100
Yes I do have a Spot2.
I have been careful to turn it on and off at the beginning and end of each day and I would say that the batteries were good for about 30 days. I set off on the Variety Bash a couple of weeks back and needed new batteries on the second day but didn't have an opportunity to get lithiums. I used rechargeables and charged them each night and they got through a day - so yes the Spot 2 is a heavy user.
BTW also have a 3G iPAD with VMS on it ($200app) includes Topographic maps and Gregory 4WD set plus does tracking with no annual charges. And before the debate starts -the 3G iPad includes a GPS chip - it does not need a 3G connection to track.
In short - much like Ozi Explorer moving map / Hema Navigator and Spot in one but without the emergency messaging in Spot.

Hi Ian and Cheryl,

I'd read that the Spot 2 is heavy on batteries, i've done a couple of trips to have a play and every thing seems to be working. I'll keep a spare set of batteries handy as i work how long they will last.

Will re-check my setup on the appropriate pages to see if i missed anything.

Thanks for your help.

Clicking on "my position" in your Member signature section takes me to http://www.exploroz.com/Members/194538.5/MyProfile.aspx#EOTrackMe showing the track from your SPOT i guess.

As i purchased one through the EO shop the other day and registered it yesterday, mine seems to work fine AFTER i made sure my "Adobe Flash" was updated to view the map data.

You can always delete the settings on EO and redo another setup....making sure you click "register" device for it to work.

Hope that helps,

Andrew
