G'day all,

just back from a quick 4 days at Anglesea for witch I took the plunge and brought a Digimatch explorer aerial and a kingray mh24f masterhead amplifier (now thinking I should have got the more powerful mh32f, but that's another question).

got down and set up and then tried to tune in the TV, could only pick up analogue TV and not one single digital station. To say I was lost and disappointed is understatement! all the analogue stations tuned in perfect, ABC 7 9 10 and SBS. The TV is both digital and analogue and work fine in the bedroom at home.?.?.

I must have played around with it for 3 hours trying to pick up digital TV but had not luck what so ever! WHAT AM I DOING WRONG ?????
Please help!!

Cheers

Have you received digital stations before on your tv?

Did you tune it correctly .
On mine I need to select DTV when tuning for digital and just tv for analogue.

What brand and , if this was your first try at digital tuning, is it a digital tv.

Does the area you were in actually have digital transmission? Some areas still don't.

The aerial you have is excellent, I have the same one with a 12v booster.

Do you have the booster actually on the mast top?

Does the area use vertical or horizontal transmission? You just need to look at other antennas in the area to tell. Was anyone else getting digital?

Silly question but ...you did switch the tv to the DVB to allow digi reception? (this is like asking if you have fuel when the car suddenly stops lol)

Cheers Neil

G'day,
Thanks for your help,

You know, I dont know if they do have digital down there? i just assumed that they would as i thought it was everywhere now??

the booster plugs inline to the mast cable (inside the van and is powered by 240v with an ajustable gain at the outlet to the TV.

I did look at the other antennas as we rolled in and they were all horizontal so i set mine up on a pole above the van in the same direction as the others.

with my tv when you start to tune in stations its asks if you would like to skip TV (analogua) and only tune in DTV(digital) I was trying to tune in both.

I think i might set it up at home and see if it picks up digi at home where i know i should.

Thanks again for your help.

We were at Barwon Heads caravan park and had all sorts of problems trying to get digital TV. I have had trouble in quite a few places. The digital signal doesn't appear as strong as the analogue. We now have VAST satellite TV so should solve the problem.

Hi Neil, would you mind telling me where you got your 12V booster & what brand it is & do they make much of a difference? Thanks.

Hi Mud80, didn't mean to Hijack your thread, but we have the same aerial & a 240V amplifier but we are interested in a 12V one as well. Thanks

Mate of mine could'nt get digital tv in his van, antenna was on back of van facing directly over the middle of the van towards Transmitter. Changed the position of antenna to front of van and recieved all digital stations clear.

Hi Barry, the booster is a Kingray, not sure of the model number. I think I got it from Dick Smith a few years ago.
The booster is just below the antenna on the mast and the injector is at the tv.

We have been to Anglesea often over the past 5 Years. The last visit about a year ago now & they didn't have Digital TV then. So maybe they don't have it still.
Should have asked at the locals in the shopping centre........ or have you checked Google?
Just found this;http://www.surfcoast.vic.gov.au/tvblackspot.htm

Apparently it won't have digital TV until Dec 2013.
Looks like you were wasting you time.......

Thanks again guys,
Yeah by the looks of things I was wasting my time.

I asked the park owner and he said all there TV's had Foxtel but it was more a customer demand type of thing.

now that I look back at it when I did the mad dash to the fish n chip shop for dinner the TV running the news was no digital set up. maybe next time ill search before we head off and save my time!

Cheers all :)

The question has pretty well been answered. Anglesea is in the Melbourne coverage area. Because of poor coverage at Anglesea, low power UHF transmitters were installed several years ago to rebroadcast the Melbourne analogue signals. So the change to digital is not due until the Melbourne analogue transmissions finish in 2013.
