It would be interesting to find out the total weight of the Patrol towing the van. She looks fairly heavy with a full load and roof rack.

By the look of the photos the one towing the van was on his own side of the road.

I bet someone was wishing they had got the 4800 version with the bigger brakes.

Robin,
you are right, the accident wouldn't have even happened as a 4800 would have run out of petrol by then. LOL. Some days are diamonds and some days are rocks.
Have a good one,
RA.

Hehe, good one Robin!
Yep, I bet the driver really thought that afterwards...."gee, if only I'd got a 4.8...this would never have happened, cos they really are the best thing since sliced bread..."
yawn

G/Day Robin
Yes, since getting the new 4.8 litre model we have noticed the braking is a lot better than the 2008 3 ltr diesel.
I wouldn't say it's the best thing since sliced bread but the difference is like chalk and cheese.

Gday
I find it hard to believe that you can say which side of the road they were on .

Point of impact, angle of the two vehicles. Have a look at the rubble under the vehicle that gives the point of impact.

From a picture taken from an obtuse angle, i am not convinced . I would like to read the report from the police first .

Out there where that happened, normally most would be travelling at 100KPH. That looks like they were travelling pretty slowly.
There was a big burn off going on out there at the time, so it looks and sounds like there was pretty thick smoke across the road.
Gee, if you can't see where your driving, why keep going? This is the result.

silver pootrol (going left to right)looks as thou it crossed the line and at speed because the pootrol/van( going right to left) behind is jack knifed the car in front of it, the vehicle towing the caravan was doing roughly 80, and the other 100, silly to do a hundred in smoke/ fog conditions...
glad everyone escaped with few injuries...
