hi,
was wondering if anybody has actually installed anti sway bars to aid in caravan towing. and yes i mean anti sway bars not wdh. do they make any difference at all. fully loaded(with full water tanks etc) our van comes in at 3,200kgs & we had a 'moment' the other day passing a bus downhill & i just want our travelling experience to be as safe & comfortable as possible.

My good mate has them in conjunction with a WDH and he reckons they are the bees knees.

He only tows a smallish Off Road van about 2.2tonnes but he reckons they make a huge difference on top of the WDH.

Mate,
I have never had them on a van but you would find a huge difference.

I have an old cruiser which was never fitted with a rear swaybar. It is great in the scrub and the opposite on the road.

You sure notice the difference driving a vehicle with and without an antisway and it is exactly the same principal as a van or trailer.

Have a good one

Snoopyone,
me thinks that to. I was saying the effect it has on a vehicle and that is the same as a van.

You can have an antisway bar fitted to the axle of your van the same as a solid axle vehicle.

You can buy a HR hitch with anti sway built in as perbelow
I cant post a picture but if you go yere and in the little box got to sway controllers and it will show you the one I mean.
It is as an ordinary one but has a cam system to hold the bars steady

sway controller and WDH

Anti-Sway bars are a great help in reducing this problem when towing...........BUT if the caravan is not loaded correctly, with the weight centred just forward of the axle, the correct towbar download and as near as possible to even weight distribution side to side, any towing aids (anti sway bars, weight distribution hitches) will have almost no effect at all.

Hope that helps.

Disco.

Yes my sentiments entirely. Either the c'van is not loaded well or there is something wrong with the c'van maybe even bad design or the weight of the towing vehicle.

I assume that you are referring to anti sway bars as fitted to a vehicle. Conqueror campers have them as standard equipment, we had one tailor made for an offroad camper & it made a massive difference in the attitude of the camper, both on & offroad.
