Gday

Second or third post as a new member and hope it is the first of many. I have been on as a visitor for some time and the information that I have obtained has been invaluable in buying my first 4wd,(Not counting Morry the old Land Rover (Now deceased)). Thanks for the advise and I hope I can help someone in return in the future.

Here is my background. I am 48 and had a dicky ticker five months ago today. All those that have been to Uni for 9 years or more(Drs and Specialists) have said that I am not going back to work and I should concentrate on doing things that SWMBO (and I) wanted to do. So I am i n the process of doing that and stage one is getting out and seeing things again that I havent seen for a while

Some of my memories.

My last vison of Darwin was Lameroo Beach and its inhabitants in 1973 eating Barra ( Courtesy of a builder by the name of McCollough I think.) from coals on the beach with the tree people.. I lived in the Govt Hostel across the road, worked for the Animal, Industry and ag Dept and played football for brothers. (We won the Grand Final}.

My first site of a Thorny Devil at the age of 12 on the steps of the Camooweal Pub.

Being stranded at Betoota and having to barter with Simon whilst flood bound and driving my mates tourist coach in early 80's

Having a midnight bath in the Moonbi Springs (I think) on the Strezlecki.

It all got to change and I'm on the road again.

After finding the site and sitting on the sideline for a month or so I consumed, digested and analysed a lot of information from the great interaction on this site.

What did I decide?

I bought a 96 GQ TD42. Absolute great shape. Company vehicle and although it had 400k on it I got it at the right price. Well maintained.

What has happenend since then?

Put in new shocks and coils 2" with Poly Air bags
Got a Tuff Roader Van from QueenslandRV ordered.
Blue Tongue IV compressor installed.
TX4400 off ebay.
Cargo Barrier and Rola Roff Rack on the way from Perth coutesy of the Trader Section.
Booked in at 7.30am tomorrow for a snorkel from Out of Town Barnsley Newcastle. (Don't tell them but they will probably score a sale for a winch and recovery gear as well.)
Dual battery from Birkenhead Solar
Engel 39 litr from a dear friend down the road whose late husband was a 4wd devotee..
New 604's or 693's on Wednesday (I haven't decided but I dont' want to kick of the tyre debate again.)
Garmin Emap in the next couple of weeks and maybee a turbo shortly after.

I've rambled enough but the point of the post is that I ordered the navigation pack from ExplorerOz on thursday or friday last week and low and behold it arrives in the post today. Congratulaions to David, Mchelle or whoever in their support staff. You have caused a lot of incidentals not to be done today as I have been deeply engrossed in OziExplorer for the last???? Ever since the delivery person arrived.

Rest assured the sticker is pride of place on the rear of........ (Sorry I havent got a name for it yet and SWMBO said I will take a beating when I give it one).

I hope that this is the start of many "Happy Trails" as one non austalian sang about?

I will now stop this rambling and recline to assess any advice you good folk can give. All i welcome>

Any spelling or gramatical errors can be apportioned to my mate MR J Walker who is at my side.

Thank you for your time in reading this bio.

Gooday Cumbo,

You are right this is a fantastic site, I get great enjoyment out of reading the posts...some humerous...some not, but most great all the same. The EO people I have met are also all fabulous people with one thing in common - 4WD.

David, Michelle and Co do a great job and it is credit to them that this site attracts the most people day in day out.

By what you have written above, you have obviously seen many different parts of the great land of OZ, but as we all know, there is so much more that hasn't been seen. It also sounds like the rig will soon be ready to rock and roll and hit the road into the never never. Enjoy your journeys, and if ever in Vic, drop us a line as we Vic EO forumites get together quite regularly.

Have fun, and welcome to EOJust Do It!

G'day Cumbo,

Your ramblings bring back memories. I too lived on Lameroo Beach and was one of the tree people of 1968. Used to pop up to the Hot and Cold at Hotel Darwin for a few cold beers and then back to the beach to pay cards with the tree people.

Hmmmm...it has been a long journey since then.

Might see you out on the road as I am always going somewhere.

Cheers,

Willem
