Dear Wifey went to the shops this morning (AGAIN!!) , a return distance of about 18ks,and on her return she casually commented that the cruiser seemed like it was going to die, I said" what do you mean",?..No power she reckoned take it for a drive!. On doing that i soon got the gist of what she was on about,
And found the reason very quickley , CDL was engaged!!!, Flamin handbag or something must had bumped the switch, But as we all know! Don't argue about it ...All my fault!...EH??. Must admit that cdl switch is in a vunerable place on the 100s, for a accidental Knock. Any How i'm glad nothing broke on her, ....Have tried to explain about the light and all the rest of it, diff wind up etc,Even suggested she might have to reverse down to the shops next time, to unwind everything ..lol.. that didn't go down
well !!.

Yep - very easy - have found
mine on a few times over several years and have no idea exactly what I was doing to knock it on - sometimes I notice the wind-up - others the light on the dash. Either way, it ain't good.

Yeah axle the one in my diesel prado was really in a stupid spot, just as you climbed in the drivers side just under the vent, so easy to activate. I went to move it out the garage one day and noticed it locked in, said to the wife " how long that light been on for"' ????? what light ??? grrrr, the light that shouldnt be on, have no idea, so it had been driven from penrith to seven hills and back one day, the next from home to penrith (work) and back home, not sure wether it was on for both these trips or just one or maybe half way home, but it had definately been on as it had
well and truly locked the centre diff, where as if it had just been knocked the light would have turned off instantly, but when its been locked it can take a few metres to unlock, no damage thank goodness, lucky the new one you have to move the stick to lock her in.............................

The so called diff wind up actually occurs in the transfer case, being a result of the different rotation distances between the driven rear and driven front wheel, in a standard non diff locked Cruiser, no load would occur within the diff centre or crown wheel and pimion unless you had differential lockers fitted and engaged.

This is simply not true.
You are correct in saying the the different rotation differences between the front and rear driven
wheels causes the 'wind up', but that is where the facts end.
The centre differential being locked causes the front drive shaft and the rear drive shaft to be locked together.
If the front
wheels travel further than the rear
wheels then the different distances can only be accommodated by the axles twisting which causes excessive torque and stress on these components as
well as placing an excessive load on the differentials, both front and rear.
