Hi

In early October we have a couple of weeks planned to get away. Two options are of interest, Flinders Ranges or western NSW. Have been to both previously but usually on the way to somewhere else so this time we wanted to stay at a few places for longer. We can get to either region within 1.5 days.

Some questions. SA school holidays are the first 2 weeks of Oct so am I right in assuming that the southern Flinders in particular could be very busy? Alos, the mice plague is bad and I wonder what people have seen in the last month or so? There is often talk on this forum about Warraweena park. I have looked at the website and it sounds interesting. Comments on comparisons with other places welcome.

Comments on the pros and con of either regions in early Oct appreciated.

cheers

Hi outback epicurean

We have just come back from Flinders Ranges, Broken Hill and the lakes, they are all worth spending time, but for mice, we did not encounter any.

New South Wales school holidays start and finish a week earlier that South Australia's. Don't know how that impacts far western NSW tourism though.

October can be warm in western NSW, but I guess the Flinders is the same. One place I thoroughly recommend is Mutuwintji National Park. Visited in winter a few years ago - my yr 5 to 9 kids spent hours playing in the dry creek bed (Mid north coast kids only know water). The tours through the Aboriginal sites are excellent and the Gorge Walk is well worth the effort.

Have fun!

Hi

Both places are great and yet very different. As for your time, it would be easier to spend the complete time in the Flinders, there is just so much to see. If you have not visited either, you could incorporate both.

If you have ever read my replies about the Flinders, we have been there countless times and it is one place that you can never tire of visiting. On our last stay, we only intended to stay away for 4 nights, and 10 nights later we came home, as that was also in October.

Have a great time where ever to do travel.

Cheers

Stephen

OBE,
as you know, the FR is a more controlled Park like situation, with prescribed camping areas, more people. Whereas the country north of Silverton (on both sides of the border) is less travelled and you can find remote dune country in which to camp. Of course, you also have Mutwingee and Kinchega if you prefer. The FR are great, but a bit like the West Macdonnells in terms of getting away from it all. That's what'd influence me.
