We are driving from Prosperine towards
Brisbane, but want somewhere to camp/stay overnight, that is only about a 4-5 hour drive south of Proserpine.
I have scoured the maps for somewhere but it looks like a
camp and accommodation void? I know there are heaps of mines inland..
We have a tent for
camping or can stay in a motel.
thanks

St.
Lawrence could be suitable - the rodeo(?) ground is available for
free camping. There is a good amenities block with pay showers. Its just a few kms off the highway. At least that was how it worked when we called in there a few years ago.
Cheers,
Val.

As said
St Lawrence looked good the last time we passed through but was too windy. The place we liked better was Carmilla Beach.Turn east off the highway & follow through to coast.
Toilets only No cost Suposed to be 48hrs but never saw it policed.
Camp on top of the dunes close to
the beach & you should mis s the sandflies & mossies as there is nearly always a breeze.
Further south over night
camping at
Clairview which also has caravan
park.Turn at southern end of town & follow road to northern end. Not much room. Not sure if the big
rest area at Waverley is for overnighting Bill

5 hours from Prossy normally get one to Rocky, dependant on speed travelled....I usually grab a motel in Rocky (on the southern side for a quick getaway) when travelling South. This depends on what you want to achieve on your trip South and budget/enjoyment/resources available.
Check out my posting in the thread -
Kiddie Rest Stop between Rocky & Mackay for travel directions.
Hope that helps.

Gooday,
Yaamba about 40 Km North of
Rockhampton is a good spot, then
Calliope River on Highway not far from
Gladstone turn off,
rest area just north of
GIn Gin, then both North & south side of Gympie, that gives you some choice.
Cheers,
Boroma 604.

Yamba is the only one you have listed that is between Proserpine and
Rockhampton - as the original poster asked.
All the rest of the choices you have listed are south of
Rockhampton.

If you have time there is SPECTACULAR
camping at
Eungella, about 50 mins west of Mackay. It is a lovelly drive through the Pioneer valley then a steep climb (beware if you have a van) to
Eungella township. The area is elevated and cool with very lush rainforest. There is a
camp ground on the edge of the escarpment with breathtaking
views, or you can go another 6pm to the National
park, and
camp in rainforest. There is good platypus viewing nearby. Also Chalet and cabins available in the area.
Eungella is a must see.
Further south, just north of
Rockhampton in
Byfield area is
Red Rock camping area (dogs allowed) , and
Byfield national park-
water park creek camping area nearby (no dogs). Both are lovely.
