Hi all,

Been looking for a new UHF for the new work Ute, and I've purchased a Uniden UH7760NB.

It is the only one that I could find(out of GME and Uniden) that have remote speaker mic, That is it has a speaker and buttons in the mic piece.

What I need to know from the EO community that I didn't do my dough and that Uniden are OK (I'm normally a GME fan) but finding a mic with a speaker in it was harder then a gibber stone.

I don't care if you lie and tell me its great but some reassurance would be good lol.

Cheers Wilko

I've had a uniden for 10 years and it's performed without fault for that time.

Not the model you have though, it's a UH 90 I think.

We have had a Uniden for about 6 years now and it has been great. Not sure what the model number is but it is the one with the small detachable head for easy mounting.

If I was to replace it would most likely be replaced with an Icom, only because I like those and at the time I purchased this one the Icom was not available where I was.

Cheers

Thanks Troll,

I've had 18 years out of my current GME TX4000 and If The Uniden works as well I'd be happy.

I have the same Uniden 7760NB.
No problems - works well.
Same reason as you, GME don't have speaker in the mic in any of theirs, only in the remote head unit. Means I don't have to have it turned up too loud.

Amazing the crap that gets bandied around re UHF's. You'd think GME are the only brand that works......

cheers

Thanks Mark,

I got it so the Bride doesnt yell at me for having it turned up (she'd hear a mouse moan from 50 yards).

I'm not a brand snob or anything like that but i dont mind paying for quality as long as it real and not just perceived.

What sort of range can you get out of yours and with what aerial?

Around town here in Cairns, I can generally get one side of town to the other (about 6-8k?) but the terrain isn't all that friendly.
Aerial is a 6.5db elevated feed (spring base) uniden brand whip (AT870 i think).
Heading of on a 4mnth trip to the centre and down sth soon, so will get a better idea of open country performance then.
Haven't bothered tuning the extra channels yet.

Cool I normally get around 20km around Parkes so if it gets that I'd be happy.

Gooday Willo : I have 4 uniden in tractors & cars inc remote speaker inc UH7760NB. all work well and easy to use . also have remote speaker in noisy tractor . but was interested why you wanted mic speaker , I dont think they are very good , most of the sound comes from the main speaker unit i have mounted behind my head .

Hi Nick,

I cant drill or fit In the dash the UHF cause its a work vehicle, I got permission to mount (drill holes) out of site. This wouldnt be good to hear the speaker. My only other option was to continue to use my TX6000 handheld which is far from ideal (good unit just hasnt got a lot of coverage).

I hope the TX audio on the new Unidens is better than some of the recently superceded models such as the UH-088 and a few others. If you spend any amount of listening to UHF you can easily pick them as the sound very hollow
with a lot of background noise.
