Hi All

I have recently heard of a track through Wyperfeld NP, has anyone out there been to this area and have any info or comments on the area.

MILMED track runs West from Wyperfeld through Big desert.

Done this trip many times & love it every time. I was up that way a couple of weeks ago & the wildflowers were just starting out.
Probably need to check up on track conditions as the claypans were pretty wet a few weeks ago & if your towing you could end up with a jackknifed trailer if your not real careful.

Its an awsome area so take your time & enjoy!

Cheers
Stu

There are several interesting tracks in the Wyperfeld Park worth exploring. To the south there are the Chinaman Well & Milmed Rock tracks which I'd rate as easy (intermediate when wet) where you travel over sandy single wheel tracks through low sand dune Mallee scrub with sections of clay pans.
From the Interesting Lake Albacutya you can follow the Outlet creek overflow north to the Wonga camp ground where there is an abundance of animals hiking trails & historical sites. The Sandy North/south, Eagle & Moonah tracks continue up to "Pine Plains" with a maze of tracks leading to the Wirregren plain & several lookouts, the highlight of which is the Snow Drift dune. This is possibly the most scenic drive in the Mallee.
From there you have a few options of continuing north to the Pink Lakes & Murray Sunset area or head south into the adjoining Big Desert forrest where the sand driving becomes more challenging between White Springs, Big Billy Bore and the Border track.
Best map of the area is "Victoria's Deserts, 4WD Touring Guide Map".
Best accomodation by far in the area in the 5 star Pine Plains Lodge. A great central location & their website will give you a good idea of the area.
Cheers Craig.................
