Hi
Our family has 4 or 5 of them, all used in caravan, houseboats or mobile homes. All are mainly used on 12 v. We have have no trouble at all over the 3 yrs we have had them, except for one, 240 to 12 v power supply died, and Kogan sent out a replacement within a few days, without any problems.
Cheers
Neil

Suggest you join http://www.caravanersforum.com/index.php - lots of comment there in recent times on this very topic. We've had a TCL unit for 3 years in the van - inbuilt DVD - Dig and Analogue - a very good performer so far.

Hi Ali C,

I have been using my lap top for years as a portable TV - it does not pick up satellite in the bush though.
Laptop runs off 12volt adaptor and use AVERMEDIA plug in. Now digital is widely available picture quality is excellent.
If staying at a park which is providing cable, PC accepts it no problem.
Happy camping!

Wayne,

Not an expert but!! It is a matter of what plug in your PC can take. I have 2 lap tops with different side sockets = PCMIA and E Express or similar. I use XP on lap tops but I don't think & is a problem,

First what socket, then English, you don't need paid TV etc.. Get back for more confusion!!!
regards
Mike

Hi Wayne,

You would need a laptop! Then when you purchase the relevant device from AVERMEDIA it comes with software (which is very good) and with the plug in device (ie USB, PCMIA or Express).

Once software is installed and device plugged in you would connect an aerial to the device, usually supplied.

I am currently in Alice Springs (sob sob!) and using digital TV I have more channels than I can poke a stick at ie ABC 1-4, SBS 1- 4, 7,9, 10 plus their other channels and a few I didn't know existed!!

I can listen to TV whilst answering emails, banking etc...., and I can record programmes onto my hard drive to view later or burn to disk. I use XP but have Windows 7 at home.

The TV kit comes with instructions and a very good manual so I am sure you could cope, after all you are a member!!!

get back if I can help more, PM me if you want to go private!

regards,

Mike

Don't forget to buy the 12v adapter as they don't come as standard. My comment on Kogan product is as follows:

1. Panel is usually Samsung and good quality, anything can fail though.
2. TV Tuner integrated doesn't deliver the best possible TV picture
3. When displaying Bluray or DVD or other inputs the picture quality is excellent

As you may know there is only a handful of panel makers in the world, Samsung, LG , Panasonic etc, you can buy their panel and put your electronics around it, thereofore the panel is only 1 component.

I've had two vans with a 12 volt TV which originally used a 240 volt to 12 volt power supply.

I made up a lead to supply 12 volts from the battery pack in the van and have had no problems with either. The first was a JNC and the second is a Englaon. Both made in China.

Gooday,
Recently had to upgrade when down south as they have switched Analogue off in Victoria.
Bought a Changhong 18½Inch Digital HD at Hardly Normal for $235-00, fabulous picture, transformed to 12Volt, very happy, could have got cheaper make, but you get what you pay for, they have been making them for 50 years.
Cheers,
Boroma 604.

Have a look on the back of the TV & it should indicate how many Watt it is. Divide the wattage by 12 and that will give you how many amps it draws per hour. I may stand corrected, but I think that is the way you calculate it.

Ours is a 12" TV & draws 5 amps/hr using above method. Cheers

Just a minor point but it draws "5 Amps" not "5 Amps per hour".

In an hour it will have consumed 5 Ampere hours, in two hours = 10 Ah etc.

Cheers

My brother just bought one of those and said the sound is awful - everything else is OK - he said he will have to get some extension speakers speakers and play the sound through a small amp.
