Hi All

Have been trying unsucessfully to find some threads from back before 2006.

Last year there used to be search start/end date fields but these no longer appear on the forum display.

Note - The Help search text still refers to these fields though ?

Without being able to enter a date the search function seems to come up against a hard limit , in my case if I search on screen name its about 200 threads the earliest being may 2007.

I suspect it may be different depending on the search text.

Any suggestions ?

Robin,
I was able to find posts back to 20002 searching under my old screen name.
so the info is there.
I note both your membership amd search results are may 2007 did you post under a different screen name prior to joining.

Hi Howard

( you must be 4wdrived out by now )

Yes, I don't think the date is the hard limit , and other searches will go back before that date.

Perhaps , that the search help refers to now non-existent date fields could be throwing me off, but can't find any guidelines to clarify.

(Presume your display has no start/end date fields - using IE7 here)

Hi Barry

I wrote a series of posts (3) I think which led to Stanley recalling there thermos flasks.

I should be able to find them if I get 1/2 hour free and wouldn't want to put anyone to any trouble.

But this issue has occurred before , either the help notes or search screen are in error , maybe someone knows why.

i entered
stanley thermos flask recall
in google search and it came up with your post on e/o and it was 4/6/2007@9.56am
not 2006 as you thought also found that 45,000 faulty thermoses were recalled in usa 21/9/2005 due to the handles breaking off and releasing non-toxix charcoal there are several items on google relating to the problems of stanley flasks
just as ive always found google rocks for searchin- whatever

Hi Robin,

I have just typed "Stanley thermos" in the "Text Search" field in the search box at the top of the forum and five of your threads from 2007 came up straight away.

Cheers,

It's not only here, over at Pradopoint the members recommend searching that forum through Google.

If the search feature doesn't give adequate results i resort to a site specific Google search as follows:

site:exploroz.com ????

where ???? being the word required. This will result in a search of results only from www.exploroz.com . The search results can be refined on the left menu of Google.

May be helpful in the meantime ;)

Robin, I also have trouble with EO search. It is most unreliable and seems to have worsened since the recent site upgrade. sometimes it produces no result from common content.

As a test I searched for "help", a common expression in thread titles. It produced a result, the oldest being in 2003 but as I selected 'increasing' pages it began to revert to more recent dates.

As you say, the date limiter has disappeared, although not from the help text.
Normally, I have used the search panel at the top of the threads page, but if you click on the highlighted and underlined word "help" in a thread, it brings up a different search panel....... which works no better. As has been said, Google searches ExplorOz better than the forum panel.

Even worse robin, I tried to use the "Feedback" link to report it and the email bounced. I give up and just enjoy the bits that work!

How good would it be to have a subscription button where all your old posts are listed so you can easily revisit them to check old info or add further followups. It's a feature I use often on other sites that doesn't have the search issues.

Crikey, just enter your name in the ScreenName search at the top it lists all your previous posts. It's not hidden, its right there in front of yours and Robins eyes :)))
