Hello people. We are thinking about purchasing our first Caravan for our V6 holden commodore which can tow 1600KG. This is the van we are looking at

Do you think this is a good buy and a good van for our car?

It seems OK, but there are plenty of vans around at that price, so don't feel locked in, do lots of reseach and ask questions and peruse this and other forums, to make it ''as sure as possible'' that it is the type of van you want. Also the V6 commodore has 2 towing options ?? i think you will find with the standard tow hitch it is 1600 kgs, but you can get the hvy.dty hitch and it can tow 2100 kgs Also the expanda's do give you extra space, but they need a bit of setting up when you stop, and they can be very cold in the cooler months' look hard and consider carefully, then buy the van You feel comfortable with as we are all different, and we all have what we consider the best Van For Us
Good Luck dazren

we just bought a brand new 16-49-3 last month for $35000.so it dosnt seem to cheap.i think the model your looking at has the soft top and the new ones have hard top.big diference.also set up time even the first time we used it was no time at all.so far we used it 3 times and love it.have had no problems yet.
cheers

Brand new for an extra $5K seems reasonable. The only thing extra I think the one I am looking at comes with is a full annex.

Hi Toby,

I agree with nowimnumberone. Two years ago I purchased a new outback 16-49-1 hard lid with larger fridge, dc battery, air con/heating, full awning and annex for $35,000. Must admit we purchased during a sale and played our cards right with the dealer. I think the one your looking at is overpriced. The hard lid is much quicker to set up and you will be sitting down enjoying a drink in no time. Have a real good look around. Check out dealers as well as private sellers. Cheers and happy hunting.

Hi Toby T1,

You can get a lot of good information from the Jayco Expanda site. Check here:

Toby T1.
The main thing is to check out the Expanda's ATM. This is the legal maximum loaded weight including full water tanks etc.
Once this is known you can then decide if the tow bar you have is sufficient and if you'll need a WDH as required by Holden.
Cheers, ozjohn.
