The
UHF radio fitted to my vehicle appears to have a problem receiving. On our last trip I could transmit loud and clear for over 6km. However I could not receive a return signal much over 2km.
What could be the problem and is there some way of testing the receiving ability of the unit.
Thanks
Wayne B

Wayne
Pls state Brand and model No. of your radio.
Also what aerial rating,, 4db, 6db, 9db... also where and how is aerial attached ?
Did you do any joins yourself. ? (one tiny strand touching had me buggered for ages) preferable/absolutely no joins.
Have you run separate lines directly to your battery ?
some need lots of direct power !
Is the unit earthed properly ?
Some questions/and answers we will need to know to help.
Cheers
Bucky

If the transmission is OK then it suggests that the antenna and cable are OK.
Maybe the squelch is turned-up too high? This affects only reception.

Wayne,
If the squelch is not turned up too far, and Tx is good, then I'd suggest the people you were conversing with may have a Tx problem. Hence your Rx problem.
Positioning of the areial is important too. Have seen some that are down on the main frame of the bullbar, with much of the aerial "shaded" by the body work. Failing any change, a dealer/technician maybe able to tweak the Rx for you.
Good luck,
Bob.

Going to the technician next week.
Way over my head however I think aerial location may be the problem.
Thanks
