I have browsed through the ARB 'book' and then rang a dealer to get the cost of a commercial bar fitted.
Was told it would be $1550 fitted.
Ironman looks about the same based on ebay prices.
Both appeared to be very close to the body of the car which concerns me if a roo came out to play on the road.
Has anyone actually used one on a roo and did the bar do its job?
Are there other bull bars I should look at?
Any help would be appreciated.

Enquired about 5 minutes ago on the tuff 5 post bull bar.
For alloy $2750 and for the Black steel $2660.
They look good and tough but I don't think I'm prepared to pay that much!

Cheap bull bars don't work, there was a comparison done about 8 months ago in one of the 4x4 mags and the difference between good and bad was astounding.
Tuff bars are over engineered and are very heavy but they are very very strong, heaps of cattle people use them.
If you want a cheap bar for looks and not overly concerned with strength there are the cheap Chinese ones and if you want some thing very good go ARB or TJM.

Boo Boo , one of the aspects of the " Tuff " bullbar is that you only ever have to buy it once [ vehicle specific ] , out our way I see a lot of b/bars that just don't do the job and need replacing after a roo hit or three , personal opinion is ARB and TJM allthough they do the job to a point both are more concerned about " looks " than the damage a macrapod does .

I will be going to a few dealers and have a look atthe bars face t face. Photos for this type of thing don't give the full picture, no pun intended.

Hi Boo Boo,
I'd 2nd the Tuff bars. Ive had 3 (hopper knocker, Boomer and then a Tuff) over the years and they are good.
I like the feeling of being able to travel along at a reasonable clip and if a suicidal marsupial jumps out, I dont even have to have the thought of swerving and ending on lid enter my mind.
I hit a 50kg pig doing 100km/h with a Tuff one morning and it didnt shift one iota.
My only advice is to install/upgrade your
suspension dampers as the OEM are usually crap with a decent bar installed.
Cheers Wilko

Boo Boo,
here are the options.
If you are travelling dusk to dawn get the 4 or 5 poster with the double side rails and hope the chassis stands up to the collision with a bull.
If you star traveling between 7 to 7.30 in the morning and stop at 4.30 to 5.30 in the afternoon get a bullbar, ARB, TJM, Opposite lock. Winter time I am talking about.
Someone said a while back why the big 4 and 5 poster bars with double side rails. It is because many country folk travel on dusk/ dawn and at night.
At other times a nudge bar is fine.
Have a collision free time with your new vehicle.

You make a lot of sense.
We travel between the times you mention. I actually discussed this with the bride and said that we normally drove during daylight hours and rarely see roos on the road and cows etc are easy to see and normally we slow down for them.
I'm now leaning more to the ARB type of bar.

BooBoo,
Have a steel ARB bar, hit a bull (about 3/4 grown) The bar folded back onto the grille small crack, broke the windscreen washer bottle few scratches on the bar plus the crumple brackets were US,the rubber buffers gone.
A new install kit from ARB some plastibond for the water bottle plus some bared knuckles & all good again.Contacted the property owner to butcher his stock .
The kit from memory was about $240.00
The only problem is dealing with ARB actually had to go to 3 franchises to establish that they did sell the install kit and I didn't have to buy a complete new bar.
Hope this helps.
Mike.

Hi Boo Boo, Have a look at "FX Enterprises" web site, I have the deluxe triple loop bar on a Colorado, Looks excellent and works
well, although I have not used it on an Animal, I did take out the side of a new falcon with it, never moved and all I have to do is give it a good polish to get the white paint from the falcon off it. You won't be disappointed, it was $1500.00 fitted in
Bundaberg Qld.
Cheers
Ross.

I got a quote from TJM here in Bundy and it was $1100.
Rang
Newcastle in NSW and they want $1120.
Hornsby wanted $1285. He wasn't too happy when I told him he was way off the mark.
I have now arranged to have it done in
Newcastle when I get
home.
ARB wanted $1550 for a fitted bar.

God you now know what and where to get it. TJM in Bundy were $200 less than the Sunshine Coast for a bullbar for the
Ranger

Meggs
It was funny to listen to the bloke in Hornsby give the excuses for why he was dearer.
He said it was cheaper in Bundy because the distribution centre was up that way.
Then
Newcastle was not making any money on it because it would cost them $100 to freight it down etc.
Newcastle had ordered 20, of which 17 were on order. I doubt wether they would have paid $2000 to freight them down.
Anyway I'm happy with the bar and the price.
