hi folks,
I am currently importing a camper to NSW.
The compliance workshop told me, unlike in QLD there is
no need to get compliance for gas and electric appliances for NSW.
I am moving to WA and wonder if they need a compliance plate for gas/electric
over there.
Do we have someone here who knows what's needed in WA?

thanks

Hi

Over here in WA its the dept of transport that look after licensing. Here is there websiteSite Link

I had a quick look but couldnt find anything.
I bought a caravan from tassie that had a gas compliance plate in it. When I brought it back and took it for inspection here, they did look for the gas compliance plate.

On the DOT web site there is an online enquiry form

enquiry form

Try asking your question there.

The van I bought in WA definitely had a gas and electric certificate and I had to get them redone in QLD when I changed the rego over.

It had to get another one when I sold it a year later.

2007 we bought a van in SA - trucked it to WA - got a temporary permit and took it straight to registration branch in Kelmscott - they checked length and width, made sure all lights worked and presto thats it - no request for gas or electrical compliance certificates or weigh bridge dockets - just evidence of purchase and ownership

thats awesome guys, thank you for your info!
Looks not to complicated in WA
let's see with how little the workshop is satisfied and let
the camper through ( hopefully only oilchange, new tyres and
the peaceful disconnection of fridge, tv, stove, heater and boiler)

cheers

Hi Chris
You do not say where you are importing from

If it is from overseas there are very strict federal requirements which cover compliance o many things to AUS standards these include gas & electrics

The costs can can be quite significant

hi Peter, it's coming from Japan with the arrangement
of an import agent. The Isuzu truck complies to the ADR, just the camping appliances
are treated differently between states.
Alloy gas pipes don't seemt to bother in NSW, but have to be replaced with copper
in QLD for instance.

Hi Chris
BE VERY CAREFUL
Snoopy will no doubt verify this
But It is fed regulations that sets the standards for imports .
Copper gas pipes are mandatory I believe under those rules & AUS standardsi
ALL appliances have to comply to AUS standards

Likewise with electrics
AND OTHER FEATURES
There are many shonks in the van etc importing business & unfortunately they do manage to sneak some pretty illegal stuff through the careless state offices .
BUT sooner or later YOU are likely to get caught & have to pay for rectification
I would definately step back & do a lot of your OWN checking via some of the links posted above
Especially make your own direct enquiries to the federal dept of transport
DO NOT TAKE THE WORD OF THE IMPORTER, others have found out the result of that including with some very expensive set ups
You could even do a search & find other's problems by googgling "imported vans ","imported 5th wheelers""Importing vans from overseas"
Peter

thanks Peter, I check a bit more.
Haven't found someone who has one in service already and is not selling, yet, but
the two main importers I found brought quite a few of them over
already, most of them to QLD.
It's not the agent I am relaying on but the compliance workshop.
Got a quote and yes, it's expensive but part of the calculation

Have a read herehttp://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/standards/index.aspx.

The seatbelts from Japan dont comply for a starter.
Plus all the things oldtrack has said.

The AGA (Australian Gas Association) website has document you can download that has ALL the approved appliances / components etc for use in Australia on LPG, natural gas etc. for domestic and commercial use. If it ain't there, it ain't approved. The Austrailian standard applies to all Australia funnily enough, not to where those salesmen / people say it is.
