I have a Subaru forester 2003 and by the looks it has the original battery, which I just replaced.

I decided I might try and charge it up with my new project intelli power charger to see what happens.

Unfortunately I am unsure whet battery type the battery is , it is stamped with 55D23L and from the Internet it appears to be a calcium battery but I have seen conflicting info as well.

The charger has 4 battery chemistry settings GEL, AGM, WET and Calcium).

How do you tell the battery chemistry, is it marked on the battery, if so where or does the 55D23L indicate the type.

Thanks for any help,
RC

55D23L Is only the designation of the battery size, capacity etc, lots of makers for that battery type.

Most likely a normal wet cell battery, it will say calcium somewhere on the battery if it is a calcium.

Not so,
Thanks for that.

A search on the net said calcium but others say wet.

It was made in Japan and has a company name on, I will include that later.

So who knows.

If I charge as wet probably will not matter any way but it would be good to know which it is.

Thanks again,

on the battery it will have the abbreviation for calcium from a periodic table (Ca)..

then a Pb after it. these batteries a wet cell as well.

that's a good run on a Ca Pb battery.

the symbol would be visible somewhere on to or sides.

Chris,
I will have another look in the morning but the battery had nothing on it like that, that I saw. I was looking for it. I it may have had a sticker which had fallen off ?

Yep I was surprised when told it was an original battery. I have had the car since new and could not remember if I had the battery changed or not but didnt think it could have been after so long.

I checked it at home and it was reading 12.9 volts have an nrma restart And a bit of a drive.

I got the battery replaced as this wasthe second time it went flat on me but thought i could chuck it in a battery box as extra power source if i can charge it up a bit more, hence my thread about the type.

Richard
