On a recent trip through central australia, this guy slithered across the road infront of me.
After a quick stop, I jumped out and chased it to get it on camera, Steve Irwin style! haha
Didnt get too much of it, but enough for someone to hopefully identify it!
Saw it just out of
Dalhousie Springs, Far North East SA
It was about 1-1.5m long
greyish with some black bands on it...
Any ideas
I thought it my be a inland taipan (fierce snake), as they can change colour from their winter coat to their summer coat...
or a Tiger??

Hopefully the link works ok!
Thanks guys! :)

Hi Luxy
Looks very much like this big fellow we saw about 100 kms south of
Birdsville about a month ago. It was identified as a Western Brown. Your snake was a lot darker, but you will be able to see if it was the same type.
This guy was around 1.6 metres long and about 2" fat and not very happy to see us.

Geez Stephen L, you wouldn't be getting me that close to that little fellow, even sitting in the car would be a worry for me. LOL Great pics.
Cheers

Hi Deanna
Long time no hear. I hope things are doing fine with your and your family over in the West. The photos make it look like I was close, but the telephoto lens made it closer at a safe distance. I know that they can jump, so I was no closer than at least 3 metres for safety reasons.
Cheers
Stephen

LOL, three metres is still too close for me hahaha, we did a 4 day trip through the mid west last week checking out the
wildflowers, they are fantastic this year particularly around
Paynes Find. Heading up to
Shark Bay and
Coral Bay in a few couple of weeks so looking forward to that, otherwise a very quiet year.
I will put up a photo of the flowers up at
Paynes Find

Hi Deanna
Now you are making me green with envoy.....all those unreal
wildflowers.
I rang
Roxby Downs during the week to see about the Stuart Desert Pea flowers. The lady said that there are only a few patches, no where as extensive as last year and no reported coloured one. We are heading over to KI in a months time, so hopefully the
wildflowers should be good over there.
Looking forward to your report.
Cheers
Stephen

Never been to KI, will get there one day I guess. How do you get over there, our friend flys over with his plane but I think there's a ferry from Victor Harbour or somewhere isn't there?
You have a great time, I know you will.
Cheers

Did they not have the rain out there this year for the Sturt Peas, they were so lovely last year, we are really glad we took the time to go back over there to see them.
Cheers

Hi Deanna
We go over by the ferry which leaves from
Cape Jervis. The trip over only takes 45 minutes when the weather is not rough, and then that is another story. We will be over there for 2 weeks, so we hope to be able to track down lots of the Islands
wildflowers.
As for
Roxby Downs, inland and outback South Australia have reverted back to a normal dry year with virtually no rainfall during the year. When we revisited the
Cooper Creek Ferry and the Simpson recently, there has been no rain up that way since early in the year and it is hard to compare it with last year and all that constant rainfall.
I just had a look at your wildflower pictures and they look great and you are so lucky having them all very close to where you live.
All the Best.
Regards
Stephen

Hi again Stephen, yes we are lucky over here with all our lovely flowers, from one end of the State to the other. The amazing thing is that no matter what time of the year it is there is always a flower blooming somewhere.
I only have a little instant camera so as you could imagine it doesn't really do the flowers justice, but the pics will always be there for us to look back on.
We will probably do the KI trip one day, I'm not a fan of light aircraft (any aircraft for that matter) so will do the ferry trip.
The Cooper would look a lot different this year then, having the water running through the dry landscape instead of the green that was last year.
Cheers
Deanna

Hi Dianna
If and when you get to KI, my only advise is no not rush the Island. We were there in March for 10 days and going back again for 2 weeks. It amazes me when people say they have seen it all in 3 days, just totally impossible.
Cheers
Stephen
