Could be CV joint maybe? Nothing major
You could walk away, play it safe and and buy a landcruiser for less stress

Not sure if it is an auto or manual locking hubs. My Patrol makes the same noise now that I have a manual diff lock in the front. Is the noise only there in 2WD when turning or all the time in both 2 and 4WD.
Check and give us a bit more info please.
Longtooth.

When you say 'manual diff lock in the front' do you mean manual locking hubs aka the GQ or AVM aftermarket jobbies. In a technical sense the front diff is 'open' unless you have fitted a remotely actuated locker (eg air, electric, cable) or an auto locker (eg detriot, lokka etc).
Reason I ask is that I recently saw what might be described as a 'manual' diff lock fitted to an older Jeep wagon...has an actuating rod back to the cockpit and mechanically/manually selected lock/unlock. Never seen one fitted to a patrol though.

If some one has fitted a front diff lock from lokka from 4wdsystems it is all good as it is the cogs releasing and connecting again it should be quicker the tighter you turn

Yes, my diff lock is a lokka from 4WD Systems. So far it is as good as advertised in two years of use on all types of surface.
