I have just fitted a 2 micron fuel filter to my 07 hilux, now it has trouble starting when cold, is this because of the filter or is the fuel pump not up to it

any help would be appreciated

hi ty c
i take for granted you are refering to a diesel??????? if so
my opinion is there is still air in the system
bleed it
make sure there is no air in the top of the filter housing and crack the injector nuts open one at a time while its idling and bleed the system until there are no air bubbles present
in most cases this will fix the problem even just a small amount of air in the diesel system will make it hard to cold start it
cheers barry

Just a word of caution, if you are going to bleed a common rail diesel, that is any diesel post mid 2007, be very carefull. The pressure in the line going to the injector can be deadly. Not talking from experience but have been told by enough people not to contemplate cracking a injector line on a common rail motor. They work on pressures that are approx 6 times higher than the diesels of old and have been told it has the pressure to slice a finger off or inject diesel into the flesh.
Regards the problem of hard to start, i have a landcruiser and was told not to put an additional filter of less than 30 micron on as it will restrict fuel flowing thru the pump and therefore cooling of the pump. May be a problem in not being able to pass enough fuel, try bypassing the new filter and see if that eliminates the problem
I was interested in trying to eliminate water and chunky bits getting thru to the main fuel filter. To date have on two occasions found droplets of water in the glass inspection bowl.

Yes 20000 psi is enough to take a finger off, NEVER CRACK LINES ON A CRD ENGINE.

Hell a 2 micron fuel filter is just about already blocked!
Put the same filter on that came off it.

Cheers.

If you are adding an extra filter as a water trap and therefore it is fitted before the original equipment and the motor is common rail there must be no restriction, as said before no less than 30 micron.
You might wish to look at water watch
I'm waitng for mine to come in the post.
