Uniden UH015SX Factory Reset & Receive Fault

For the last 4 weeks my UHF - Uniden UH015SX seems to be stuck in receive mode. I can Transmit but can not receive. The S/RF Signal Strength bars are always showing.

I worked out how to do the Factory Reset - You hold down the HOLD & POL Buttons at the same time while turning the unit on - The unit then goes through a reset - You then turn the unit Off and then On as normal and it is reset to the factory settings.

This did not fix the problem - Anyone else had this issue? - I did find one thread online where this question was asked, but it had no answer.

I have emailed Uniden as the unit is still under warranty - Will advise of this outcome in due course

Hi Tony,

Your first line leaves me puzzled ? If it is stuck in Rx mode, I wouldn't expect to be able to Tx, but you say that you can TX, so I assume that it is actually stuck in Tx mode, thus no RX.

If there is actually no audible noise coming out of it I suspect that the PTT is stuck in or jamed.

Interesting / frustrating fault.

Jerry - Disconnected the Mic to see if it was faulty - Did not stop the issue

I can use the PTT button to Transmit and all Ok - Just can not receive See comment below - I found this thread with same problem - Uniden Receiving Issue

Recives Constantly
for Uniden Portable Radio UH015sx
i have a uniden uho15sx radio. at first it was an intermitant problem but now is constant. as soon as i turn the radio on it is constantly reciving when there is no signal, i can still broadcast but as soon as i let the ptt button go it will automaticly go back to reciveing and if there is a signal that is coming in my radio will not pick it up.

Have not heard back from Uniden Australia Yet.

Squelch is set at Minimum # 1 level - 1st thing checked :-)

Factory reset and problem persists.

As soon as I turn the unit on the receiving signal strength bars shoot up to max and this seems to block out all incoming signals. It does not effect transmitting.

Update on this issue

I received a phone call from Uniden and they said they could find nothing wrong with the unit. I advised that it would not receive any signals and it was indeed faulty. I was told they would have another look - That was a couple of weeks and a half ago.

Today to my utter surprise/dismay I relieved a Warranty Rejection Notice or Quote to Repair in the Mail. It stated I had to pay $55.00 for repair and return.

The reason for charging for the repair was noted as "Unit requires replacement of faulty discreet component"' (I think they meant Discrete)

I purchased the unit in June 2010 and it states it has two years warranty, which means it was under warranty until June 2012.

So now I have to waste time and money doing the call to Uniden and wait on hold for quite some time. I asked "Please advise as to why I am being charged for this repair?"

The reply is that your unit is no longer under warranty - I suggested they look at the receipt and the stated warranty period for what I had purchased...

I received a "Oh sorry for that", we will get it repaired and returned to you. ASAP - I wonder if this is the standard ploy to get payment when not warranted?

Will post when unit is returned to see if it all finished up peachy :-)

What I have sen happen is that a knock or similar detunes the the FM detector making the unit appear to constantly receive a signal.

In the "good old days" you could tweak up the coil in the quadrature detector circuit and problem fixed , I believe now that this section of circuit is a fixed ceramic type resonator operating of the end of the detector IC and essentially its cheaper to replace the whole unit.

A friend had one, and it was about 8 months out of warranty.

LOTS and LOTS and LOTS of Unidens have the exact fault you describe.

My friend lives in the bush so I said I would follow it up for him. When I called Uniden and said it has a receive fault they interupted me and said "yeah lots do that, send it back post paid and we will probably fix it for free."

2 weeks later I got an invoice for $80 to fix it. Then 5 days later got the unit back under warranty before I paid.

Push the issue and they will do it for free, I am sure. Tell em you read that lots have this issue.
