Hi all,
We are going to be travelling over the west soon and have a permit for the
Great Central Road and the Gunbarrell Hwy but would like to travel along the
Hunt Oil Road while we are in the area.
Depending on how you interpret the map that comes in the permit application pack, it may be that one is not required for this road but it would be reassuring to know before we leave.
I have asked the community but have not had a response yet and our departure is getting close.
Cheers

Hi Wooly,
No permit is required for this track, a very interesting drive.
I have made a video from 2008, the track takes up the first half of it.
Cheers
Alan

Great video Alan. Thanks for your response.
Looks like I will have to take some shadecloth along for radiator protection and
check underneath fairly regularly for any build up.
We can't wait to get out there and see some of these
places.
18 sleeps to go
Cheers, Wooly

Wooly if you get a chance pop in and have a look at
Woodhouse Lagoon south of
Mount Worsnop. I didn't go there in 2008. A report from 2009 I had says it was dry. In 2003 it was 3/4 full. Freshwater. I'd love an update!!!

I'll have a look for it Alan. I will have to get a more detailed map of the area before we go. Ours shows a series of what looks like salt lakes close to the road so perhaps
Woodhouse Lagoon is one of them. I will certainly let you know and hopefully some photos if I can work out the photo thing.
There are lots of interesting
places to see out there. Just watched a few videos on Vimeo, great country. I get the feeling that things are starting to brown off out there a bit now due to no rain for a while but hopefully it will not be overbearingly hot just yet.

It's the largest of the small lakes to the south, not to be confused with the much larger lake, Lake Gillen, even further south.

Wooly, it's a great track, The Hunt and one I hope to get back to soon. These may help.
HUNT OIL BLOGS
There are five in total including a track condition report. Some contain video snippets from various locations along the track.
Absolutely amazing country. Enjoy it.
Cheers Mick

Gday Mick,
There's some great reading and viewing there, makes doing research easy.
Thanks for sharing your experiences.
Its getting harder to sleep at night now as d-day gets closer all the time and the anticipation of this trip is building. This is our first foray into the west and really looking forward to it.
Cheers, Wooly
