Thought I've seen some crazy things out on the road, Till this Arvo!.

Travelling home on a main arterial road, and came to a halt in a line of traffic. that appeared to be held up by a bus, or should say the rear end of a bus!, it appeared the bus driver executed a left hand turn into a side street only to fouled up having to stick his nose out onto the on comming traffic in that street, Three cars!!! that bunched up all wanting to turn left but where held up big time because of the flow of traffic at that time of arfternoon. All that two of them had to do was reverse back a tad and let the bus around. NOPE! the idiots sat there like stunned mullet oblivious to the chaos they were causing. especially to the ones that were trying to creep around the rear end of the bus, Dangerous Plus!

Cheers Tired cranky need a beer,

Axle.

Its amazing how Uncommon Common Sense is - some people just don't get it do they!
There is a lot of difference between
‘Human Being’ and ‘Being Human’.

Yes I am sorry you see it everyday . At 11 am this morning I was behind a learner driver in a B double trying to turn left at a sharp left hand at a roundabout so some idiot who was probably in his 50s and old enough to know better drives on the inside of the truck while he is trying to turn . No wonder some of the cars get squashed as the car was that close to the truck the driver would have not been able to see the car . Most people say it is the truck drivers fault and should not be on the road . No trucks no food or anything else .

Thats why they have signs on the back saying "Do Not Overtake Turning Vehicle". I guess they either can't read or think it is there for decoration.

As a retired professional driver, interstate included I must say that just when you think you've seen it all some idiot does something in a car that makes you realize you ain't seen nothing.

Reminds me of the the lassie in a small Japanese lunchbox who did that to a long flatbed truck on a sharp left in North Sydney.... the tray of the truck opened up the side of her car like a can opener..... gouged the outer panels off from bumper to bumper.

She dived in AFTER the truck was already turning and was having a hissy fit about the truck not staying in it's lane. Mr Plod had to gently remind her a couple of times about what the "do not overtake turning vehicle" meant ... still think she didn't get it !!

G.day Axle
I hear where your coming from.
I do 50.000km a year on our roads & I could write a book about dumb things I see people do every day!
My wife supports people with mental issues & quite often they get into a car as the driver after a session & she comes home & tells me that its frightening to think that this person is even allowed to have a drivers liscence. Makes you think about how safe your kids are out there on the road.
Its a privilidge NOT a right.

Cheers

My biggest gripe is people who continuously drive in the right hand lane (on a dual carriageway) without any intension of turning right.

Or the idiots who plod along at 20ks under the limit, till they see and overtaking lane, then do the speed limit or a bit over so no one can get past.
I caught thias idiot up the other day between Cootamunda and young who was doing 80, as I closed on him(I was in a 14 seat hiace) he speed up to 90. Three times he braked hard for no apparent reason in about three ks. I knew their was a long straight strectch upahead so waited till then to commense overtaking.
Now I was always taught that you spend the least amount of time on the wrong side of the road, so got up to 110 to clear him, check my mirrors and this idiot had sped up and was sitting beside me. Had to get up to 120 to finish the manourve. Then he is sitting 60cm behind me, is this idiot on drugs. If I had known it had a tow bar I would have been tempted to jab the brakes.
The next driver was in a normal car, lets him pass but when the next driver in a bus comes up behind him tries the same thing. Looking at his sun wrinked arm this was and older person.
Cheers Pete

To all and sundry and Madfisher you can jot down the number plate and report driver to Police who will send a fine through Post, but the downside is that you are required to attend the local Court in the drivers area should he contest the fine. Too bad if you live in Sydney or Broken Hill if it means traveling to Young or Cootamundra for his day in Court

I was told this by a copper at Dungog Police Station 15 yrs ago, don't know if it still stands

I don't think that many car only drivers have a concept of the dimensions and space needed by big vehicles.
Under these circumstances it would be nice if everone took a chill-pill and worked things out. But then that's not human nature is it?

Every day I see people driving through red lights and not using left indicator but today was even worse saw some even turning right and not using indicators . Also the amount of people in dark vehicles at dusk and daylight not using any lights , must not want to wear the globes out . 50 years ago there were more police on the road in comparison to now with the number of vehicles on the road . You always had to drive to survive but it even worse now .

Come over to WA Blackbird and you'll all those things you complain about and a lot more besides.
WA traffic cops are interested in speeding only, nothing else is considered an offence unless you actually upset a cop by doing it!
When I lived in Melbourne nearly 40 years ago I thought the driving standard was appalling, but after being transferred here I changed my mind and thought it quite good compared to these idiots.
It seems a lot of them have been sniffing, drinking or injecting something illegal the driving is that bad.
We all make mistakes but believe me the commuting crowd are not a pretty sight especially on the freeways in peak periods.

Was watching some tv show the other night, can't remember which one, where it was talking about some of these bigger truck companies investing in cameras that records what the truck, as well as the traffic around it are doing. The truckie always seems to get the blame. Maybe not now.
The system I have seen is only about $300.00. Might be a good investment in the event of some idiot that lost his common sense.

Couldn't agree more, AlanTH. Perth drivers are the pits.
Recently there was a crash on the freeway and EVERYBODY was stopped. Bloke behind me starts flashing his lights and tooting his horn at me. Maybe he wanted me to fly, perhaps?
And tailgating has become a real menace. I recently had a school bus (of all things) tailgating me. I tapped the brakes to get him to back off, but he wouldn't.
My towball/hitch sticks out quite a bit. I'm thinking of putting a sticker on it saying: "This is much harder and stronger than your radiator."
Cheers, Tony

A couple of your replies Axle, show the reasons why I have often said that I wouldn't drive any car that mores than 12 secs to get to 100 or that doesn't have reasonable performance in others ways like low C of G good brakes and importantly good visibillity and 4wd capability.

There is always going to be some dumb/bad behaviour around have having better tools allows you to cope better.

Sometimes we don't help ourselves much though , after coming across an ambulance recently that was blocked by traffic , and driver if front wasn't going to move - as was red light camera junction.

I drive three vehicles. A bus, a L'cruiser and a Daihatsu Coure and can see different attitudes from other vehicles when I'm driving each one.

I have a 93 Mitsi Lancer. In the process of tarting it up for the young lad.

When it had hubcaps, stock exhaust and standard ride height, it went unnoticed in traffic.

Now it's lowered, a bit louder (not real loud) and has some factory alloys all of a sudden other driver's behaviour around me has changed. I haven't altered my driving style at all.

I even had a "senior" bloke I know cut me off (not realising it was me). When I quizzed him about it, his response was "I thought it was some young .........er".

I'm starting to think that perhaps it's not just the young drivers that are to blame, but also the older drivers with stinking attitudes.

I can't win. I drive the Lancer, I get labelled a hoon. I drive the Pajero and the anti 4WD mob crucify me. Then when I ride the Harley, I'm a delinquent.

Fab.

...almost forgot the truck. That cops a fair bit of aggression too because it won't do the quarter mile in less than a minute from a standing start.

Seems like it doesn't matter what you drive or what you tow, you'll never keep everyone happy.

Even push bikes and gophers are not safe from criticism.
