Have just purchased a 2002 GU II Patrol, 175,000 on clock.Well serviced and maintained.

When should I expect it to self detonate?

With all the horror stories I've now read I'm thinking it can't be far off.

Just came back to Melb from FNQ. Did not see any GU's dead on roadside.

Have I purchased a time bomb?

01/02 Model - Petrol, Diesel ? ? ?

It's the later 3 litre models ones you read of that go bang.

I'm guessing a 4.2 diesel, No problems with these ol oil burners.

Hi Cary
Isnt that a little like saying I have swallowed a teaspoon of cyanide ....how long have I got.......
You bought the vehicle knowing its checkered history your the one who is responsible....
Best of luck, I hope you dont have any dramas

Tony,

Just being a little cynical.

No one seems to get on and say they own one and its been a great vehicle.

having said that when I have been researching other vehicle, Jacks, Pajeros etc you get the same types of posts.

Anyway I'm happy with purchase and wont be driving with one ear on the bonnet listening

Cary

I used to own two ZD30 (3 litre diesel) Patrols. 2003 model was a GREAT vehicle. I upgraded???? to a 2005 model and blew the thing up. Do a search on here for "Four cracked pistons".

Have you purchased a bomb? Not if you keep the safety pin fastened ;-)

My next door neighbour just brought his home last week after parting out $8000 after his 2005 blew up. Doesnt drive fast, was coming home from Darwin when it let go.
Nissan paid a fair proportion of it luckily

Hi Cary - Assuming it is the 3 litre td for you to throw in a baited the hook. Your heading shows 2001 but your text says 2002 - the former is probably correct as the Series III came out October 2001. It has fairly low kms for its age. Look after it and you will have a good vehicle.

Hi Cary
I've got a 2000 3LTD and travelled 340000 (10yrs old) before she detonated last year. Fit Dawes valve and keep your MAF (mass airflow sensor) clean service it regularly and you should have a reliable truck
