Hi all,

To follow on with the theme of the wildflower season here in WA here are some shots taken yesterday at our local reserve.

It is shaping up as a good season again in WA.

We are off to Coalseam Nature Reserve next weekend, so hopefully some more photos next week.

Regards

Dunworkin,

They were taken in the suburb of Southern River, in the Perth metro area.

Thanks Barry, there is so much development going on down there I'm glad they have left a bit of reserve there. Will have to go and have a look at them next time we're down there.

Cheers

Dunworkin,

This reserve was actually marked out for houses, but there was such an uproar the developers left a section of it undeveloped.

Thanks again Barry, is that the area behind Blechendyn (spelling) Park? I think there are some swamps in there. Your spider orchids remind me of the Stirlings, the wildflowers in there are just so amazing, I grew up with them but never tired of the number and array in the spring time. The Cranbrook Bell and the Scarlet Banksia are two of my favourites down there. The Cranbrook end of the Stirlings where the Cranbrook Bell grows is the only place in the world where they can be found. I did try to grow a couple of plants in the back yard but to no avail, they lasted for a couple of years but the flowers weren't as rich in colour as the ones on the hills.

Here is a photo that I took of the plant in our garden. The colours are much brighter in the bush and the shrub itself is not so spindly

Deanna,

These were taken at the reserve on the corner of Gay St and Warton Rd Southern River, just before the Garden Street road extensions.

I have not seen the Cranbrook Bell before, I will keep an eye out for it when we are next down that way.

Hi Barry,

Those ground orchids are simply amazing in their intricacy and delicacy. I just hope that we can get back to WA before too long for another look.

Beautiful photos, is it OK to link this thread to the Wildflowers, Photos main blog?

Cheers,

Val

Nice pics, Barry.
King's Park is quite resplendent at present - was there the other day showing overseas visitors, and they were impressed.
Looks like a great season.
cheers
