Currently touristing around
Broken Hill after a few rest days at
Menindee to wind down from the National Gathering. These guys came into the C/P for a quick shower stop today. They are a Vic club of unrestored vintage vehicles. There were nine of them plus the caravan and they are heading to
Cameron Corner so if you are up that way you are sure to come across them. Who says you need 4wd ?

On a footnote, I thought I had found my first ExploreOz member on the road today in BH. Spotted a wheel cover on a late Nissan Patrol. Went over to say hello, the guy even had an EO Tshirt on. Turns out they were given to him as a present and he wasn't even on the
forum. What a letdown. Cheers,Bob

Did you ever think they may be saying, "You don't really need 4 wheel drive, a shiny paint job and BIG tyres? You just need to know how to drive AND to have fun?"

It was really good to see them being used as they used to be. I had forgotten how these old clangers used to smell. Hot oil and I guess grease and leaks give them a unique odor. The fellow I spoke to said they had had a few mechanical probs but nothing too serious. They had done part of the Darling run through
Bourke,
Louth,
Tilpa, way so far. Felt a bit sorry for the dog. Maybe he just had a sad face but he looked a bit lonely.

Thanks Bob
Fantastic pics, and the sort of experience that really adds to a trip. Sort of adds to the history of T-model Fords blazing the air race ground trail from
Darwin to
Longreach and an Austin 7 being the first car to
Cape York.
Do you recall what make the white (
well, once was white) sports car was? Looks like a Riley, but the wheels aren't quite right.
Cheers
John

Hi
John. Not real sure ,I thought it may have been an MG but if you zoom this one up you can see a bit of the emblem on the radiator cap.

G'day Bob
I think it may be a Jaguar SS, around 1936. Thought that initially, but then didn't think that anyone would be using it outback, rather than forking out tens of thousands of dollars to restore it.
A bloke over the road from us in
Adelaide back in the 60s had one, fully restored, and it was worth a fortune then. Exciting to be in too.
Cheers
John

Don't know about the sports car but the "baby" looks like a '48 Chev ("Fleetmaster" I think it was called). My folks had one from new until they sold it in '64 or '65. They reckoned it was the best car they ever had.

Looks like they had red plates which are club rego and only have to be roadworthy
I had a 1931
sedan on full rego for awhile not restored.
It would a shame to restore them.
Good on them .
Cheers reggy2

What a sight, great to see these old vehicles out and about. The one with the dog looks like the old Buick my father had when I was just a little kid.
I think its a good reminder that these old vehicles were the ones that helped pioneer a lot of the country, and they could go just about anywhere.
Cheers,
Val.

came across some of those very same vehicles at Ivanhoe in august last year when they were on their way back from
Louth races.
I think there were 5 including 3 studebakers.
regards
Howard
