Hi all......
We are looking at departing from
Laverton on Monday to Alice but the forcasts are not looking to good for rain in the central desert areas ...........
I am not that good on "reading" the forcasts so what do you guys think ?????
I should explain we are leaving
Perth on sunday and need to be in
Doomadgee FNQ by Thurs/Fri so need to take a decent short cut, the Central Desert road is the best for us and as we have never been on it we are looking forward to the trek..
Cheers
thanks Joe

Joe
It was suppose to rain in
Bundaberg yesterday afternoon and according to that map we would be in the light rain area today, but it's picture perfect at the moment.
Given you time table you might just have to take the gamble or do a lot of driving if you stick to the black stuff.
Safe travel either way.

Boo Boo,
yep it is just a gamble and I believe they work on the chance of rain. So you just have to suck it and see. At least they are only predicting light falls in the area.
I see your Troopy goes into hospital today, may the surgeons bill be small.

Hi Rockape,
Thats a very handy website mate, thanks for the link. We are heading across the Anne Beadell leaving
Coober Pedy on 10th Oct and looks like it will be doable according to that. Worth a punt anyway.
Cheers, Wooly

Hi Motherhen,
According to Transport SA website Anne Beadell is open to all vehicles with caution due to bushfires at this stage so heres hoping it stays that way for a while.
Will keep an eye on it though as it changes so quickly.
Cheers

Joe, I find the link below to be a useful tool. You might be better to leave the decision until Saturday if you can.
Best of luck and have a good trip which ever way you go.
Cheers, Kevin

G'day Joe & Mel, hope you are having a good trip.
I am not sure that I can help you here, I haven't been in that area through the Central Desert, but here is the BOM site for forecast rain.
A couple of buttons there on the page give you the chance of rain and the predicted amounts of rain.
BOM Forecast Rainfall
cheers
Dave

Came across from Alice to
Perth last week , road was in fairly good condition . Few short sections of corrugation . Was generally a
well gravelled road so I reckon you would need significant rain to cause you a problem .
Wildflowers were amazing and make sure you call in and see Al & Serena at Tjuk....
Also fuel is much cheaper at
Yulara than
Curtin Springs

Joe,
Just checked Weatherzone, and there's a 90% chance of rain for
Warburton on Monday.
However, the highest rain ever recorded there for September was 38mm in 2004. So my thinking is it may rain, but there's been no rain for over a month, so the road could probably handle up to 25mm, or more, before it becomes a bit difficult.
You're also on a pretty tight schedule too, so just arc up that sense of adventure you all have, and go for it. A moderate amount of rain will help to knock the top off the corrugations, and also make for cooler travelling.........just be careful where you pull off the road, eh.
Good luck,
Bob.

LAverton on Monday, and poddible thunderstorms towards

Joe.
Rain would be an advantage in the centre at the moment. there are fires burning over a huge area so you will encounter fires likely to at best delay you a few days. Eric.l

thanks heaps for the replys all .........
As you probally have noticed it is forcast for "something" out there but not normal for rain at this time of the year and as some have said there are fires all over the show out there so rain will help that problem out at least ....
We will take a punt and do it, we do live in the thick of "rained out" areas but it is the actual "road closure" that will stuff us out there, if it does rain heavy it will simply be like our standard wet up at
Doomadgee ... point the bugger to the center of the road and go for it ... :-)
Our trip has been a blast so far, bleedin cold at Bremer with HAIL one night but same day it was 39 at
home so it felt good ..... hope it continues for the last leg, looking forward to it, in Katanning atm,
Perth tomro and head off maybe Sun
Some of the fun at Bremer ..... so sorry guys but better than Barra any day :-)

Good fishing Joe.
Well done. And you should know by now that June to September should always be spent north in the
Tropic of Capricorn. Good luck with your trip
home.

G'day Joe, not where you are at the moment, we've still had no rain from apart from that 1mm, but there has been some storms around
Laverton. I wouldn't have thought it'd be too much, but they have closed the Rd from
Laverton to the
Shire boundary, west of us.
It's only just been closed in the last ten minutes, and still haven't spoken to anyone from the shire to find out what the story is.
Last report we had was storms only stretched about 50km's out of LA.
Cheers
Al

There are some scuds around the place, but pretty isolated nth of Leonaora/
Laverton.

Drove through
Laverton myself today for work and after the sludge just south of
Laverton on Yarri Rd, combined with the nasty looking thunderstorm about 12 noon i decided against heading up Bandya Rd to the next
mine site i was suposed to stay at because my work car is not fitted with a
snorkel and i have zero recovery gear (work car - not my choice not to carry recovery gear). So glad i turned around and came back to Kalgoorlie via the Hwy (
Leonora) as it pelted down and flooded the hwy about 50km north of Kal.
Good luck with what you decide! Just remember do not get off the track or you'll likely get bogged.
