A friend has a D4 and is asking about off road tyres. I note the standard rim is 19". Does anyone know the smallest rim that can be fitted?

Bob I am assuming that this is the 3.0litre v6 SE or HSE model.
If so the 19' is the smallest size rim that can be fitted as the brakes are quite large.
this is a major shortcoming of the Discovery series. the only vehicle in the range that has rims that can be downsized to a more workable 17' level is the 2.7 litre S model.
There are a number of other forums that can offer advice ( im not a LR owner myself but was considering buying one but the wheel sizes let me down)Not sure of other
forum names but they do exist.
Pirelli may have a 20" scorpion offroad tyre and I think cooper tyres may have a 20' ATR
check with them
Hope this helps with your immediate dilemna.
Regards
M

AULRO would be a good place to ask.

It is true that most 18" rims will not fit but Commotive make a 18" rim that has a larger inside diameter so fits over the brakes - there are quite a few ATs in that size that work and if you accept bigger tyres (that may not be legal) and a little rubbing on lock and at access height there is at least one MT.
