Hi All,

I have come across a post by a person that calls himself "Rapid". The thread id is 48625. From what I read he took Nissan Motor Co to task and won so I would very much like to speak with him as I am about to do the same in a week and a half. My ZD30 Series 4 gave up the ghost at 80,000 easy klms and I'm not impressed. The car was 6 mths out of warranty and Nissan are only prepared to supply a parts kit not a long motor which I'm not happy with. If someone knows Rapid or can help me with contacting him it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

I have heard of Nissan Owners getting better results when they communicated with the Nissan State Office rather than the Nissan Head Office.

If you decide to go that way, phone the State Office and ask if you can speak to some one re: a Technical Matter, the receptionist will put you straight through to some one in authority.

I did this when we had our 2008 3ltr Patrol. (wasn't a blown motor problem).

They acted immediately with our problem, although the vehicle was still under warranty, the Dealer didn't want to co operate.

Good Luck.

My neighbour has just had his Series 4 motor replaced after the pin fell out and it blew.

He told me Nissan put a long motor in and he paid half.

It is out of warranty but not sure how much.

Hes not home so cant find the mileage out either but am pretty sure its over 100,000

Hi snoopyone, Thanks for the info. This is great to hear as Nissans main come back is that the issue stopped with series 4 and only the 3 had the engine problem. Is your neighbour in Vic? Can you come back to me with some more info? ie: exact klms, how far out of warranty and when this happened( accurate date). If your neighbour is willing to call me or correspond via email it would sure help my case if I could give any evidence of another series 4 failure. It could help me and many others in the future. Thanks, Darren.

Usually problem is piston failure. Known failure in the earlier 3lt but not so much in the later versions.

Even if the vehicle was still under warranty, Legally Nissan would not be obliged to fit long engine, only to repair as required.

Rebuilding your old engine is quite ok .

Who is paying labor you or Nissan. If Nissan are paying then don't bother taking any further action. However if they have asked you to pay then I would be taking them to the tribunal for at least 50% labor cost plus parts.

Success in the tribunal will depend on your service history. You say its done 80,000km but dont say how old the vehicle is. If the vehicle has been serviced by your mechanic then he had better have used Genuine parts and the correct oils.

If it has been serviced by Nissan Dealers then you stand a much better chance of getting 100%. If you have no service records then you have Buckleys

Cheers

They are wanting me to pay labor. Est at $4000 plus any repairs needed when they inspect the cylinder head and crankshaft so this could and probably would blow out and that's not a chance I'm willing to take. It's a one owner, bought new in 2006 and full service history from Nissan dealers and 4wd service centres ie: ARB stores. They had inspected the service books at the very start and approved a spares kit supply at that point. I feel I have a very good case but any further proof of the same issues with other series 4 ZD30 engines would not go astray.

Ok so its possibly 5 years old. 2 years out of warranty period.?

We are assuming its a piston failure and not something else.

Contact Nissan Customer Service in Melbourne if you haven't already. Get a firm commitment from them to pay parts. If the servicing has been done by the same Nissan Dealer who is going to do the repair then you can usually do a deal with them on labor.

If the vehicle is being repaired outside the Nissan network then dont expect Nissan to pay any labor at all.

A reasonable outcome for something like this would be the customer pays labor and Nissan pay parts. You should be prepared to contribute towards the cost of repair. Nissan paying 100% is highly unlikely under the circumstances.

If you cant reach an agreement with Nissan then Contact the Office of Fair Trading in your local state.

Good luck with your endeavors.

Cheers
