I feel I need to tell fellow members of this outstanding genny performance.
An aquaintance of mine has a small acreage at Yarloop, south of Perth. He and his family are currently living in a shed while they build their new home. He has been in a long running dispute with Western Power over the cost of providing a power supply to his property (a little over $40,000). In the meantime he has been running a Honda EU20i genny for 14-15 hous a day for just on two years. That's right, every day for two years. He changes the oil fortnightly (using only Honda oil) and it's never missed a beat. They run the normal household lighting, refrigeration and washing machine etc. They do need to turn items off occassionally to avoid overload of course, but all told, they manage very well. He took the machine to a Honda dealership recently to have the valve clearances checked, and the mechanics were amazed at its great condition.

So, on this basis, those of us that run our gennies occasionally with our vans can look forward to many years of good service.

No affiliation with Honda, just pleased to applaude a great performance.

Your mate might be better off going to an Off Grid Solar system rather than trying to deal with the energy supplier.

$40,000 AND ongoing costs.

Surely solar would be a viable option. Also did you know that there is a device for coupling 2 honda u2.0i generators together to make the output closer to 4kva? Might make life easier for him when extra load reqd.
Only a suggestion.
Have 3 generators, 2 yamahas and the honda like your friend. The honda wins hands down.
cheers

honda engines are well proven just look at how long the old postie bikes go for and the bigger 4x4 farm bikes can take a beating and never failhad both
there;s nothing like a honda engine imho have used them for years

Was a bit blase about that, until worked out the hours. Over 10K hours!!! That's pretty damn good for a petrol genset.

No doubt it is running well loaded, and the reliability can be credited to the make, and good, regular servicing. Have found that the correct oil grade is important with these little petrols, otherwise they carbon up the valves.

We had a couple of diesel gensets that did big hours, a Deutz twin cylinder had done 38K hours when we sold it, and another, a 3 cylinder Hatz, did over 40K hours before being retired. Neither engine had any major work done on them.

We have had ours for six years now.

During the year I give it a few starts and then each holdiday season we head off to Bay of Fires, where there is no power and join the throng of Honda users.

Never misses a beat, except for one year when it got a fuel blockage.

Last year, the caravna next to us and us, decided to take it in turns and run both caravans off one generator each day.

Great little unit.

Hi Dusty - My caravanning mate and I run two vans off the one genny each time we start one, just to keep it well loaded. I don't know that they glaze up the cylinders like an underloaded diesel, but they seem to sound and run better with a bit more load.
I envy you your jaunts to Bay of Fires. I've had some magnificent wine from the region but haven't yet visited the area. I may never leave.

Best regards ..................... Kev.
