Hi.
Hope to travel these Highways soon (next dry season) with a 19' tandem axle caravan (normal suspension) most of my research has shown that the Tablelands Hwy is sealed but I am unable to find out if the Carpentaria Hyw is sealed
My intended trek will be Barkley Homestead, Cape Crawford, Borroloola, King Ash Bay, Then return Borroloola, Cape Crawford, Daly Waters
Any info regarding these Hwy will be much appreciated

Thanks Harry

Harry,

Both highways are sealed. The last time we went through there, the northern section of Tableland was a bit ordinary, but would think it has been repaired since.

Pretty good drive, with plenty of campsites along the way.

Bob.
Seen it all, Done it all.
Can't remember most of it.

All sealed but most of it single lane tar. Some relatively windy sections and plenty of roaming cattle.

Will be heading up their in 2 weeks. Caretaking at Lorella Springs for the wet, so can let you know in April, when I head out and back on the track.

Do the couple with a Thai lady still own it?

We were there a few years ago and they had just been dudded by their manager who (the story went) had had a bikies convention there and absconded with the takings. He apparently told a different story.

The caretaker then was a very colourful character who had a full Territorian vocabulary. My 65 year old wife always laughs about how he described the falls at Lost City to her as "yea F*** high"
We still remember Lorella as one of our most treasured camping experiences, just magic! but a trial to get into. Someone with a Bushtracker there had his Microwave fall onto the floor on the road in.
So I now hope you are not the previous caretaker, but even if you are , he provided a great entertaining story.

Regards Philip A

Hi Philip, No this is my first time, and hope that it is a wonderful experience. Being their for 6 months without anyone will be great. And I hope to have heaps of stories to tell after. And yes Rett is still the owner. Cheers Andy

As the others hace said, the Carpentaria is sealed, but is single lane so you need to move half onto the gravel if you meet someone coming the other way.

Last Easter the road was in such a bad state that NT Roads instituted a one way system - travel east to west in the morning and west to east in the afternoon with no overnight travel permitted.

If you have a bitumen only van I suggest you contact the NT Roads people before you set out, just in case the road hasn't been properly repaired.

Nice drive though, and if you can leave the van and drive into Lorella Springs you will love it!
