Hi all, would like to know which one is the most comfortable for touring. I will not be towing, just the two of us plus camping gear.Is there any difference apart from room?

If budget is no problem, then the V8 in Diesel.

You should book a test drive at your local Toyo dealer, back-to-back drives with your two options and you will feel the difference

If money is a serious consideration , then more so go for the test drive

Good luck - it is a nice "problem" to have ;-)

You cannot really compare the two, they are in a different class and price range. While the Prado is comfortable, the cruiser is simply much better.

Be very careful of taking both for a test drive! We originally were going to buy second hand, could not find a good one that suited what we wanted and then we took several new 4wd vehicles for drives. Then we took a Landcruiser 200 series for a test drive. We have had ours for 2 ½ years now, just about to click over the 100,000 k’s mark and absolutely love it. The V8 twin turbo diesel makes touring a dream and makes for a very capable 4wd when needed.

There is a poverty pack 200 coming soon. Same V8 Twin Turbo without the frills.Barn door, mine specification. Rumored to be priced around that of the 76 series GLX Wagon. Thats the one I am waiting for.

I wouldnt say mine spec.

I am currently driving a "Mine Spec" 150 prado. Total cost not including delivery $100K. Depending on the spec mine complient can be madatory potable water storage to fire supression.
Do agree with you though I think it will be a great package.

Yes Craig I agree, perhaps mine spec was not the correct terminology. What I should have said is a base vehicle no frills. To comply with the latest mine OH&S and other safety equipment the cars end up very expensive.

Hi Iva

I guess you are comparing the V6 petrol to the V8 petrol and so long as you are only using it for touring there is little difference.

The V8 diesel is a great car but we like to drive quietly through the country side looking out for widlife and with the windows down the diesel tick tick noise was annoying. At 100kmh though its quieter than the new petrol Patrol we choose ahead of the cruisers.

Hi Robin, nothing to do with this post but was just looking at you profile pics, just a couple of things, page 5 are you trying to level the track out a bit ?? Also presume this is on your property ?? Also I think was page 6 did you get through the mud ?? Also what happened to all those wires that got ripped in half, what was the cause of that ??? Regards Steve

Hi Kimba

Yep page 5 is levelling out track with jack hammer on a track of mine -super slippery and in danger of sliding sideways into deep rut.

Page 6 Range rovers bogged etc - no I set them up and ran away !

Wires were quite a story - think it took me 1/2 a day to lengthen every wire in loom seal and replace loom - tested every bit of my ability to solder under pressure and then sort out a fuse that blew when they were ripped out.

The wires were ripped out when I went into a little ditch which had a short log in it which came up and ran along side inner chassis rail.

I take it your talking current models?

A little more information would be helpful!

If talking current models I would take both for a drive and see what you think, I would not rule out the D4D Prado either.

We have a 2011 200 series VX diesel ...... wife likes it and I .... well lets just say I'm not overly fond of it.

I doubt you need another vote, as you've had so many but we love our V8 2009 Landcruiser 200 Series, Sahara model. There isn't anything I think I could do to improve it, apart from a GVM upgrade!

Out of the interests of fairness though, if you do end up doing test drives on both I'm sure we'd all be interested in your thoughts.
