Question: Portable Toilets and Dump Points

Curious about vacuum toilets not needing power? What form of energy creates the vacuum?

Umm... the 12v vacuum pump!

The vacuum pump draws about 1.5A when running - takes approximately 15 sec to recharge the vacuum after a flush. The water pump also runs for about 5 seconds and draws around 5A (depends on model). So all up it draws just over 0.01A/hrs per flush, close enough to negligible if looking at power consumption.

Cheers

Hi Kensa,
The above response is absolutely correct - the vacuum pump does require energy to create the vacuum, otherwise a vacuum toilet will not work - this article has now been edited to reflect this update.

Thanks folks for the reply. It is exactly as I thought but since I don't know about vacuum toilets I thought perhaps I was missing something.
