Battery charging with a twist.

I will have an AGM lifeline 105ah battery in the dmax and will charge it when I'm in a caravan park with a ctek 7000.

I would like to set the ctek up on a permenent basis.

This is my thought... Please tell me if it will work.

I thought it would be a good idea to have a 50amp anderson plug attached to the leads coming off the +ve and -ve poles of the battery and drill a hole through the toolbox and screw the plug to the outside of the box.

Now here is the tricky part. Will I kill myself if I put the other part of the anderson plug to the lead coming out of the 240v power point?

Or should I bin the idea?

You might like to put a 12V battery charger between the 240V power point and the 12V anderson plug, DONT connect 240V to 12V without one.
240V to 12V battery charger to battery = GOOD
240V to 12v battery NO charger = VERY BAD.

Got that?

Good

The no edit is a pain.
Take the Ctek with you and just use that as per normal.
The battery will charge fairly well just connected to thee start battery and vehicle alternator while driving.

Cheers

YES

Don't play with 240V

An Anderson plug setup to charge the battery while travelling makes sense but go nowhere near the 240V

I'm not quite with you, Boo Boo, you can connect the battery to the Ctek via the
charger output wires but dont connect 240v to either of them or to a Anderson plug.
No doubt the leco gurus can point out how to mount your Ctek correctly.....oldbaz.

Well I can't understand what you are trying to do.

From the way I read it you are going to put an Andersen plug on the outside of the tool box from the battery terminals and the other side of the Andersen plug to the 240V.
Now that is how it reads to me and no one wold be that stupid to connect 240 to the battery so I am missing something.

Errrrrr

I forgot to say that between the battery and the anderson plug wil be the ctek charger.

I would never hook 240v straight to the battery.

Because I will be running two fridges of the battery the idea is to put the charger on each night. It will put in more than the fridges will take out.

Thats why I wanted to make it a permenet setup.

I can't believe I forgot to say the charger would be between the battery and anderson plug.

I think you are having a bad day. From what I suspect your post should read. From the battery I will connect a Andersen plug and mount it on the side of the tool box. On the 12V of the Ctek I will put another Andersen plug and leave it permanently connected and the existing 240V supply stays the same via the 3 pin plug.

If that is how it is supposed to read no problems it is the way caravans are wired if it is something else, well what is it.

Thanks meggs

Thats it in a nutshell.

I think I need a bex and a lie down.LOL

I shouldn't try and do my speech for my daughters wedding and post a new idea at the same time.

Once again thank you.

Hi Boo Boo, I think I know what you are talking about. I bought a caravan 240v inlet plug that goes through the wall of my service pod, or your tool box and have the ctek wired to the end of it, so you just need a 15a lead to plug into it when at a caravan park. Yes it works. I would NOT use an anderson plug.

Thanks Andy

That sounds like a good idea, I'm glad I thought of it.LOL

I'll talk to the sparky and get it all done when I get the wiring etc done.

The battery and charger will sit in the toolbox and the inlet plug will be the only thing outside the box,,, I like it.

Just a little more, it is waterproof and can be bought at any caravan shop. I had an electrician wire it for me $20.00 . The idea is so you can leave your car locked up, and no leads hanging out an open car charging batteries, charger etc. We live in hope for honesty.

If you are going to go to all the trouble I'd be fitting a higher output charger as the 7 amp job will do little more than trickle charge three batteries.
Use a 25 amp Ctek or better still a Projecta as they are a bit more user friendly and adjustable as well as being cheaper.
