We are about to go across the Nullabour, and were wondering at which town we'd lose phone reception, and then get it back again? We have "Blue Tick" next G telstra phones ... not that it seems to get us much.

You will lose reception just out of Norseman WA and will get it back shortly before Ceduna SA.

You will briefly have reception at Eucla (Border Village) and not much more.

A little OT but try to get your fuel at Eucla (not Border Village) or Mundrabilla if you are budgeting.

Cheers Neil

You can download a waypoint file from here.

The file is very large, and therefore will not load all the waypoints. What I do is load a map say of WA or SA), then load visible waypoints.

With this file, you will see there are Tesltra towers across the Nullarbor at Norseman, Eucla, Nullarbor, Yalata, Penong & Ceduna.

I am half asleep. My comments were related to loading the waypoints into OziExplorer.

Bugger we've lost reception what will we do?
What did we do before mobile phones... we got on with our lives and lived. Don't worry about the silly thing it'll still be there when you come out the outside... from both directions.

Yep,
Leave my phone at home when we go out. Losing touch with all the news headlines and everything else is part of the reason we go out.

Too true Rod.

It's like an addiction. I am always amazed at the actions when passengers are getting off the planes. Beats me how some people even sleep.

I leave my mobile in the drawer next to the bed. It's been there for years.

One of the best things about our slow trip across the Nullarbour (found some great camp spots) was the lack of telephone reception. The world got on quite well without our input and family problems were all solved by the time we found out about them! It was amazing how unnecessary the phone was! Next trip we will take even longer to get to Norseman! Lynne

Will be enough traffic that if you get problems you wont have to wait too long.

The best part of riding a m/bike on my own across the Nullabor was I did not have to ring anyone . When I was young there were hardly any phones and it did not worry us . The sun still rose in the morning , Mum still cooked for us .

we have just crossed it and i could not believe how much reception we could get ....... it is far from remote now, zillions of cars and trucks and mobile coverage at some sites, not a great deal different to driving down a freeway ..
Cheers
