I'm looking at buying a Ford Transit van but have no experience with them. Appreciate any information of reliability and what specifically to look at when buying them. Do they have any one particular thing, they are known for going wrong?
Model will be from 2000 to 2004. Manual prefered and midroof LWB. Not worried about how it looks but mechanical is important. Carl

Hi Carl,
All I can say is get the injector pump checked they are prone to failures and at around $4k not cheap.

I had my previous Transit van put on gas as the diff ratio was really high and it went through fuel too fast. It would go almost anywhere at 90 kms an hour up
hill or down. It screamed a bit if I went much faster. I ran high profile LT tyres and clearance was great. Tough as nails, but it was an older motor- a 250 ci, I guess.

Hi Carlsp
I have a 2003 Transit truck LWB that we use for work, we have had it for just under 2 years and have added 25000 Km on to its original 95000 Km it had when I purchased it.
Fuel consumption is fantastic, I can get 600 Km on a tank driving in city traffic with a 900 kg trailer behind.
No clutch, pump or injector problem, very happy with it.
Cheers and good luck
Robert

Suspension and gear box were major issues in the period you are looking at.
