Hi Guys

Just bought a 97 3.1TD and am working through some repairs it needs. One of the things I have noticed is the shaft damper just behind the gearbox a has a lot of play in it and I think is actually introducing more vibration (at low RPM) than it is removing.

Can it just be removed because it is not fitted to all models and Holden want nearly $600 for a replacement!!?

I have read on many forums for different makes that it is not essential and as I said I think it will be doing more harm than good the way it is.

It is the same set up as on my Isuzu MU (built in the same factory) and has been like it since I brought it 10 years ago, will have nothing to with vibration. Really do not know why it is there. Also check this site www.clubisuzu.com, but the Jackaroo forum is probably the best.

General consensus is that it can go. Out with the angle grinder I think.
