I hear that there's a push to ban trailers & vehicles over 5 ton due to the dune damage on the CSR, this will not change damage if people don't air down, I've just started building my Canter motor home with supa singles & it leaves a smaller foot print than my patrol

Do you have any more details? Like who is making this proposal, when, where and why. Until we know the more details this news is just internet trash.

I was told by a local (a quick conversation when he came in to Nowra 4wd & tire he had wreaked the wall of a new type of BFG mud tire (i was waiting on my own 4wd) He had just got back from doing the CSR & said it was a push by WA Gov (parks), I hoped that some one on here might shead more light on it, so we in the eastern states could write that we oppose it (if it is true & we do nothing well we deserve to lose access) & if its just bull bleepwell this site will normally tell you

Haven't seen anything in the local (WA) media about it, and a check of the DEC website reveals nothing. Any sort of "push" like this would need to be opened up for public consultation before changing anything. Unless its something to do with the traditional owners.

Dont need weigh stations mate. They carry light portable scales that can accurately weigh several toone. Slide em under your rigs wheels, quick calculation, hand out the fine and then on their way!
True.

Don't know how they can police this, but it is not too bad - 5 ton is reasonable.

I acknowledge that with care and experience, letting down the air etc. some vehicles (heavy or with trailers) do less damage than fools with single light 4wd's,

But how does one police letting air down? Thing is, put that same inexperienced driver in a heavy vehicle and/or with a trailer, and they do the most damage

I think the 5 ton limit is reasonable, just my opinion. (yes have done the CSR, not just arm chair critic)

Cheers, CJ

Don't forget that authorities can't make you air down because it may put the tyres outside the manufacturers specifications and therefore cancel your insurance.

Gidday

Maybe the message got a bit garbled on the journey from Wiluna to NSW ...
trailers and vehicles larger than a Toyota troopy are already barred from the southern end of the CSR where it passes through Cunyu station (up to well 5). This ban has been in place for some years and those wishing to take trailers travel via Granite Peak or Glen Ayle stations.

Cheers

What is the definition of being larger than a troopy - weight, height, length or width.

My truck is higher than a troopy, wider than a troopy, shorter than a troopy, has more ground clearance, has bigger wheels, has a smaller motor than a troopy, has a 1.5t load capacity but weighs less than a troopy.

Gidday Garry

This is an extract from the Exploroz CSR trek notes: " In times of wet weather, the section between Wells 2 - 5 through Cunyu Station may be closed to all traffic. This section is also permanently closed to all vehicles towing trailers and "oversize" vehicles. i.e.., any wide track vehicle over the size of a Toyota Troopcarrier (PC) - definitely no Okas, or Akas."

Cheers

So I guess Patrols being slightly wider are not allowed then.
