We did it 9 years ago in a rental 100 series with dodgy tyres. We found that is was easy with some low ratio reqd. It was dry when we did it, if it was wet, we would still be there.
Conditions may have changed since then.

Not hard in the dry, when it's dry, but if it rains then, you could be their for 6 weeks or more and still need to get dragged out, and at some cost $$$$. The track is managed now by the council and could be closed at any time. Last year it was closed for 6 months, and I haven't had an update since. If the CREB is closed then go down the Bloomfield's, it's just as good.

Sure the
Bloomfield track is good but its got nothing on the
CREB track, its fantastic. Ive travelled all over Australia and it is my favorite track. Dont miss it before its closed forever.

We done the Creb about three or four weeks ago, it was great! There are some challenging bit's but with a properly prepared vehicle, recovery gear and someone with you (and no rain) you should be fine.
I done it in my stock standard Nissan Patrol and a friend in his Tritan ute.
Be sure to ask about conditions before you go, Locals are your best source of info,
shop keepers, caravan parks, Lion Den hotel (fully recommend a stay there). We even met up with a guy that lives on the track. There is a
Police station at
Wujal Wujal, we didn't ask there but I'm sure they will be able to help as
well.
In short, give it a go !!! We loved it.
Cheers
Bob

There's a few clips on youtube that will give you an idea of what it's like, though as most have said - in the dry it's not too bad.

If you can, get hold of a copy of the Gall Boys (Kedron Caravan fame) DVD on Far North Queensland. They pulled a caravan over the CREB a couple of years ago - a bit of an eye-opener! Not suggesting you do the same, but the video photography is entertaining, to say the least.

Robert,
It is as simple as this----if there is any
sign of rain or the track has had rain recently give it a big miss.Iwent from south to north(the harder way) after some showers on the track and I had some anxious moments .In fact a troopy like
mine ended up on its roof the day before. It is
well worth the trip in the right conditions but don't under estimate the dangers in the wet.

It's been very dry for weeks until a rainstorm this afternoon and you wouldn't want to be caught on the track.
I would leave your options open and have a go at the track if it has been dry for some time when you are there in June 2013. Not very likely, as there are often showers still hanging around in June.
But the alternative road through
Cape Tribulation is still a worthwhile drive.
