Well the Great Ocean Road and 12 Apostles are hard to beat. The Grampians are beautiful especially in spring, and the western desert NPs are good too.

Cheers,

Val.

Up the Black Spur on the way to Marysville from Melbourne for some gorgeous Mountain Ash forest - you could do lunch at the Black Spur Inn or continue on to Buxton to the Igloo Roadhouse for some great burgers...

Everywhere is good depending on whether you are into coast, mountains, forest, desert, history, food, wine or all of the above! Allow plenty of time. Just get a good map, check out the tourist info centres and go! The best time to travel is probably March to May - you miss the worst of the cold and heat, rain and bushfires and generally have reasonably settled weather!

What sort of things do you like p_marns.

Victoria has got lots of things similar to other states so maybe its the different things one might target.

E.G. A simple 4wd drive several thousand feet up to a 5000ft high mountain peak like say Billy Goat Bluff is one such memorable trip - and there are several of these.

If you have two years then a lap of Victoria has plenty to offer. Starting from Wodonga there are great camping opportunities right up the Murray with the paddle steamer history of Echuca through to Mildura. Heading south you have the Sunset Country, Wyperfeld & Big Desert areas to explore. From Portland there is alot of coastal history, the Great Ocean Road & Otways National Park. While many choose to dodge Melbourne it has much to offer & you may consider visiting while one of the many major sporting or cultural events are on. Looping back the gold areas of Ballarat & Bendigo have alot of history to check out with some great nature walks in the nearby Grampians.
Cutting around Melbourne there are some lovely Mountain drives & even more challenging 4 wheel drive tracks. Fauna parks, Puffing Billy down to Phillip Island & Wilsons Prom. Again lots to see & do along the coast through to Mallacoota.
From here you could launch into a High Country run up the Dedick trail, through the Cobbera's, Omeo, Dargo, Wonnangatta, Licola to Wahalla. Gold history around Woods Point, mountain cattleman & huts around Mansfield. Food & wine of the Rutherglen & King Valley regions.
In fact it doesn't matter where you go in Victoria there is heaps to see & do whether you're towing a van, in a 4wd or on a motorbike. Start with the numerous National Parks & reserves, stop off at local tourist info's & explore what each town has to offer. It's quite funny how so many drive thousands of km's in the remote areas of Oz to visit attractions hundreds of km's apart yet in Vic the mo6ntains
