Hi All,

Lido seems to be the only low pressure portable gas stove on the Australian market, and though they're a good unit, they are also bigger and more expensive than my ideal.

Are there any others ?

What do you mean by "low pressure"? No jets in the stove and a regulator in the gas line? Coleman has stoves like these.

I can't describe what constitutes a low pressure stove, but perhaps I can explain it in another way.

I want run a 3m gas hose from the bottle storage compartment at the side of my camper to a stove in the kitchen area at the rear. Two local gas equipment mobs say that only low pressure stoves can have a hose longer than about 1.2m, and that Lido is the only low pressure stove on the Australian market.

Sounds like you can't have too long a length of rubber gas hose without getting too much pressure drop. How much of the gas hose/line could be metal? It would have to be fixed in place but this would avoid any pressure drop.

I can see the problem with the Coleman stoves. The regulator is usually very close to the stove and connected by a metal tube. Unless you can get the regulator close to the cylinder and connect to the stove with a long length of low pressure hose, the Coleman's aren't an option.

Unfortunately all the hose would need to be rubber, in order to pack it all up when it's time to strike camp.

I think you may be right about the Coleman stoves, and that would be a pity, because I've owned three dual fuel Coleman stoves and they work extremely well.

Hi Nic I.

I had a bayonet fitting installed on the outside of our van. I had trouble buying a low pressure stove & settled for a Lido. A good stove & very happy with it.
Cheers.

Thanks Vince.

They do seem like a good unit, so I might just have to wait a little longer for the budget to include the extra funds, then shell out for one.

Nick, you’re alive. I was worried you’d dropped off the face of the earth. You are obviously working too hard. I’ve been through the dilemma myself of late trying to design a slideout kitchen for the camper. Was going to build in a gas range with two or three hobs like the Smev units. I just can’t justify the expense of upwards of $500. The lido looked like a good unit but the $400 was exorbitant when compared to my two burner primus at $60. Companion make a similar unit to the lido with a griller for around the $100 mark. I was never going to build the gas into the ute or camper meaning that the bottle would sit under the bench so figured that it was a damn site more expedient (and financially sound) to simply include a recess in the bench-top to fit a generic 2 burner. A lot less form work in the building process to.

Hope plans to travel are afoot for you both. Look forward to a cartch-up when you’re down south next.

Cheers Mick

Hi Mick,

Good you hear from you too, I hope you and your mob are well and not pining too much for the wild places. I'll send you an email with some personal stuff.

Yeah, the Smev and Lido units are quite pricey for what they do/are. We had a Lido Junior in the old Adventure camper, and while it was ok, it certainly wasn't any better than our $70 Gasmate. In fact the Gasmate has fold-out wind deflectors, something we had to come up with ourselves for the Lido - not difficult, but at the price the Lido should have these and more.

As for price, I can get a Lido for a little over $300, possibly less if I buy two. So if you're interested at that price, perhaps we can buy them together. More in my email.
