Hey All,
Taking the kids
camping this weekend (just the one night) and was thinking about driving from Jenolan to Wombeyan via Kanagra Boyd.
Trying to work out the best way to go and where the best place to
camp would be with all the track closures I am reading about.
Can anyone advise the best way to go and where the best place to
camp would be. Not looking at doing major 4WD as will be on my own with the kids but would like to stay on dirt as much as possible.
Cheers!
Andrew

Limeburners paddock is a good spot to
camp the night, but not sure if the track is open. its years since I have done the trip hopefully some one will be able to help you, Years ago we use to go Friday night to
Bates Camp (all meet) then
dingo dell to Yerranderie (stay the night) & out via limeburners to
Wombeyan caves & home

Hi Andrew
Dingo Dell as mentioned would be a good spot, also Boyd
camping ground on the same road as the
dingo dell turn off (the one that goes to Kanangra walls)is another good one but it is only 25 km from
Jenolan caves so it may be too close to the start of your trip, it does have
tank water and a large hut with tables. The road to DD is a good 4wd trip I think you would enjoy it.
Have a great trip
Trevor

Thanks for the replies so far.
Dingo Dell sounds like the place to
camp.
Can anyone actually tell me though where it is and how to get there from
Jenolan Caves? With all the track closure threads, VMS not having tracks labelled and just general confusion on my part :) I can't work out the way I need to go to get there.
Is there a current track log I can download for VMS which will show me where I should go?
One book I have says it is on Kowmung River Road but then the NPWS says that road is closed and access is via Banshea Fire Trail. I thought I read that Banshesa Fire Trail is closed as
well?
I wouldn't usually plan this much but I have the kids with me so don't want to be driving around trying to find the campground if I don't have to be.
Can anyone actually confirm I can get to
Dingo Dell and have an exact location?
Appreciate it :)

The Kowmung roar is the only one I have been on and it was fairly wild in
places and that was before the Dec/Jan rains so I wouldn't be suprised if it is close.
For the record to get there from
Jenolan caves go on 5 km towards
Oberon then turn left into Kanangra Boyd NP (big
sign at entrance) about 15 km down the dirt road is the turn off to the right which is the Kowmung river road (straight ahead is Boyd
river camp ground) which will go to DD , keep an eye out for the
sign.....easly missed. the road is around 13 km long and took us 40 min to travel it, it has one
creek crossing.
Nothing quite like a
good camp, I hope you can find a way through
regards
Trevor

I drove Wombeyan to Jenolan about 6 months ago and it was ok. The
river crossing was a bit deeper than usual because it had rained.
Dingo Dell is a good spot to
camp. Some of the track had ruts washed out due to the rain. Most normal 4wd's should have little trouble. But that was then and this is now. :-) Mike

Just looked it up, Kowmung fire trail is closed. Access via Banshea which runs off the road to Yerranderrie. A fair way down to
Dingo Dell to come back out the same way. There are
good camp spots at
Abercrombie River National Park as
well.
The entrance to that is not that far from Banshea trail.
