Hi all,

I recently fitted a Truma Gas only hotwater unit to my van. I wonder if others who may have a similar unit or a Suburban could tell me whether they run the gas continuously, or do they turn it on just prior to needing the hot water for a shower or dishes etc.
I have heard of some who turn it off at night, but leave it on all day. My original thought was to turn it on late in the day only, a half to one hour before we require it, but running it all day maybe just as, or more economical due to less gas being used to top up the temperature instead of reheating from scratch.
What do others do?

Regards from Col.

Hi Col. They are a bit noisy when heating so we turn ours off and only turn on half hour before required. Usually in the morning and evening to wash up then turn it off till the next washup time. Our's is a Suburban and it only takes 20mins to heat up. The water can stay hot for up to 2 hours as well. Cheers,Bob

Hi Colin, we have a caravan with a Suburban hot water unit fitted and also a camper trailer with a Truma hot water unit, both are heated about a hallf hour prior to use, and this seems to work fine,

Hi col,

I have a truma in my european van 6years old never missed a beat. Turn it on half an hour before I have a shower, hot as in that time. If I need hot water at any other time I heat some water in a saucepan on the stove. Gas bottle lasts for ages.

All the best Warren.
