Further to my last question.....does anyone have any other suggestions for good steel or alloy roof rack / cage for a 120 series Prado.....other than ARB, TJM or Rhino. Will be doing short trips mainly but also doing the Birsdville track next year.

Cheers Jason

Jason,

Think Powerful 4x4 do aluminium racks. They might be good enough for what you need.

If you were doing a lot of rough stuff, steel might be the better option, as it can be repaired in the bush, but they do have a weight disadvantage.

Bob.

Can't remember most of it.

Do as I did Jason, wait for Supercheap to have a 20% off sale and get one from them. Quality same as other retailers in fact probably made by same company. I have done many ks with mine and no problems.

I have a 2006 120 Prado and fitted roof rails and a basket that I bought from Super Cheap during a sale. The price was about $100 less than normal. I have since fitted a 120w solar panel to the basket and this charges my second battery that runs the 60lt engle fridge.

G'Day Mick

Read with interest you post re roof rack/cage set up on your Prado. Have similar year Prado and am currently looking for a cage to sit on the rails etc. I like the idea of having the solar panels set up on top. What is your set up routine with the panels when travelling? Do you leave them up top and load what ever gear you are taking straight on top of the panels? Or set them up when you have arrived????

Cheers

Marc

The panels are up on the basket permanently and all camping gear that doesen't travel in the caravan goes in the rear compartment and the back seat area. I bought the basket only to accomodate the solar panels.

I wish now I had bought a larger basket to allowg for a swag and the solar panels for times I don't use the caravan or trailer. But such is life. We just make do.

You could also look at the alloy flat roof racks that come from South Africa. Dolium are the importer and they ar sold through Opposite Lock stores.

Dolium

They have legs for the Prado.
