That reminds me , i must get seat covers , saw some good ones at te 4wd and adventure show today in Adelaide , they were done in the sort of material normaly seen on work clothes /overally but with extra stiching to shape it around the seats big $$$ though about $138 from memory , be careful not to use to much chemical on the grease in case it discolours the cloth i'd get ready with some soapy water and was for about half an hour . I know a lot of people will say rubbish I have done it heaps of time and never had a problem but DONT use any sort of solvent on your car seats especially if your car seats have any sort of micro fibre content, (velvet feel ) you can cause de lamination to the fabric and if this happen you will never find a safe place to run to or hide.
if you go to your local commercial cleaning chemical supplier that sell chemical to carpet cleaners ask them for a Encap product (encapsulation Chemical) you will be looking at anything up to $150.00 for 5 ltr but i am sure if you tell them your story they will give you a sample you only need around 100ml of chemical to make 1ltr of solution. take a small clean empty bottle with you.
basically all you then need to do is make up the solution in a spray bottle lightly mist over the affected area and agitate with a clean white towel the area will get a white foam over the top as you rub and the mark will disappear, leave to dry and give the seat a good vacuum the next day.
with out going into a chemistry lesson it will not damage the fabric and will not leave a residue that will cause resoling. the left over spray pop under the sink (will last upto 3 month once mixed with water) its great as a spotter for all carpets and fabrics have a mark on you carpet that keeps coming back after every clean give the encap a go might not work the first time but i bet it works the second (depends on how much soap has been put into the carpet to try and remove the stain)

Easy peasy, Axle,

Just take a sharp Stanley knife (or similiar type blade) and cut the offending piece out of the seat.

I am sure that you will be able to explain the missing piece with a more convincing 'story' than "sorry darling I did not take my work gear off"

Plus a box of chocolates and a bunch of flowers...LOL

Either way, it don't really matter..........youse are in the chit...LOL LOL

Axle,

Checked out one site, and they suggested CRC Brakleen(for cleaning brakes, discs et), used sparingly.

If there's a fair bit, sprinkle cornflour on it, to soak up some of the excess, brush that off, then wipe with detergent, or maybe CT18 truck wash, on a piece of absorbent cloth. Remember to use it spaingly, and don't be heavy handed lol.

And maybe that box of chocolates mentioned above.

Check out books by Shannon Lush, she's a legend when it comes to getting stuff clean.

Good luck,
Bob.

Brakeclean will bring it out just don't spray directly on the seat (married to mechanic). Soak a flannelette rag with it and work in small areas. Do not have any open flame anywhere near the stuff either.

remove seat, place milk crate and post-it note on steering wheel ........ the milk-crate has NO grease on it, the seat does, what one do you want ?????

After you recover (about 3 weeks intensive care) you can use HOT water, as HOT as you can get it and dishwashing liquid, i have found Palmolive the best, it eats away at the grease in seconds, scrub it gently in a small circular motion not back and forth as it tends to strech the fibers and make it "hairey" if you use harsh scrubbing, just gentle circles like a massage .... and you can pour hot water over it to rinse the detergent away but be warned it will wash it absolutly spotless and often so clean it will stand out like dogs balls against the rest, but it is the safest and best way to do it, the hot water aids it in drying and rust in the frame, there is not many other options that really work, i have heard of a spray you can use from a can and you vac it up, the idea is far better than waters but i have never used it so cant say ....
Cheers

Book it into a specialist Car Cleaner for a "spring clean"...(that is for Her benefit).

If the stain is not out when you get it back just blame the cleaners for putting it there.

Easy peasy.

Try "Protectolene Hand Cleaner", use sparingly, clean off with wet cloth, you may have to do it a few times to complete the job. Great product.

I seems like it can obviously be cleaned with something that everyone has mentioned ...but it seems like the cleaned area may look obvious to the rest of the material so maybe it may just be better to clean the whole area and maybe even the other seat so as keep it looking uniform across the board , in regards to possible fade or being obviously cleaner in patches....I know how you feel axle , you are now in a catch 22 situation...if the cleaning procedure stands out also ...more chocolates hahahahahahahahahaha

From a book by choice (Australian consumer's association), "How to clean practically anything" -

Oil and Grease

Washable fabric
"Blot immediately with absorbent material to remove any excess. Apply a paste of enzyme detergent and warm water. Rinse and wash as normal. Alternatively, use several applications of a grease solvent, blotting as you apply them. Rinse and wash normally.

Non-washable
Blot any excess, then try methylated spirits or other grease solvent, or take to professional drycleaner.

Carpet
As for non washable. Sprinkle liberally with absorbent powder and leave for 3 hours. Vacuum. Apply methlylated spirits or dry cleaning fluid. Sponge rinse with cold water."

Shannon Lush says if it's grease from a car, use baby oil, and detergent suds. She says to use only the tiniest amount of water on carpet and upholstery.

Good luck!

Leanne

Hi to all involved with this post,
Loved some of the recommendations hahaha LOL.
No matter how many boxes of chocolates you give her and however long they keep her away from the car. She'll find out!!
She'll sue the cleaners if you do that great idea and then you'll really be in trouble!
Good luck!
Take care, keep safe!
Bye for now. Ma.

Back again Axle,
I got thinking after I answered, that if she's still screaming, she must already know.
I got mislead some where.
Anyway, I thought I'd let you know that the expensive canvasy type of seat covers show grease & oil too. Hubby does the maintenance on Gus. whilst we're travelling. We did 12,000 k's this last trip.
The oil stains are on my side & when I asked how they got there the reply was.
Yeh how did they get there? MMMMM . We were on long service leave, not worth spoiling with a fight.
I've heard that some of the reputable car cleaners do a great job but take all your valuables out 1st. Better than making it worse.
What you've saved in mechanical repairs will cover the cost.
You've been given lots of advice. I hope you succeed.
Then let her go out & buy her cheap ones or mid range ones.
Hopefully you won't do it again but just in case.
It's great to see good fun on E.O. Some of the reply's gave me a really good laugh.
Bye again,Ma

I spent 20 years as a drycleaner although that was 35 years ago, nevertheless I know this much, you should never apply water to oil or grease as it is not soluble in H20.
You need a clear solvent such as TURPS and apply with a cloth wiping off all the excess, any remaining remnants can then be worked into and inside the seat as it will disappear into the fabric. When fisishing, feather out the Turps mark around the edges to erase any definite 'wet' border.
The only problem you will have is, the grease will most likely be contaminated with carbon and grime, this is a little harder to remove but hopefully this will not be the case.
Good luck!!

Another heads up for eucalyptus oil...BUT...the ridgey didge pure stuff tho...not the cheap solution one.
Anyone know about turntable grease??? Bloody horrible black stuff that jumps all over your arms or back if you go wthin a foot of a semi turntable. I get it on my work uniform occasionally...and the euc. oil rubbed onto it (with an old face washer) together with a good rubbing of liquid washing detergent gets most...if not all ...of it off after the first wash

HTH.

It probably won't come off, so prepare a good story. You can run, but probably have to go home sometime.
1. You could grab the last clothes she wore, and grease the back of those.
It should automatically pass the blame onto her.
2. Say you found an extremely large spider on the seat, you greased the seat so it would fall and die, just to protect her.
3. You were going to surprise her with a pig on a spit, but the pig escaped from the cage after you had greased it and before it was full prepared for cooking.
4. Say the grease is supposed to stop sweat stains.
5. Tell her it is the same principal as a dog marking a tree, just a claim of ownership.
6. Claim that you checking out a luxury hotel for a celebratory love reinforcing dinner but the valet parking attendant was wearing filthy clothes.
7. Say it was the results of a radio contest where you had to submit a countries name without actually naming the country, and you couldn't do Iceland because the ice would melt The prize was a second honeymoon.
8. Say you were out to buy her a diamond necklace, but someone pushed a shopping trolley into the front of the car, and the air bag went off. The grease was residue from that.
9. You witnessed an horrific car accident, and as you were carrying out CPR on a bus load of orphans, and a greasy tow truck driver moved your car so the air ambulance could land.
10. Suck it up and say " Yeah, I did it. What the hell are you going to do about it? I understand a few weeks in hospital can be relaxing, and they have special powder to alleviate plaster itch.
