Fridge works well on 240 & gas but not on 12v. Have connected it to the alternator via Anderson plug, have checked power to the unit from alternator & is ok.
Have checked connection from dc inlet to the heat exchanger ( if that's what it is called ) with am ohmm meter & have a circut to the unit. What could be wrong.
Can someone help I have the fridge out and can access it.
I have also been told to fit a computer fan to the back of the fridge as this will increase the efficency? If this is right where do I fit it?

Hi Chris
I suspect that the heating unit has dies. It is easy to remove. I would take it out and beanch test it with a 12 volt battery to see if it heats up.
I would suggest that you put the computer fan on the inside of the top vent. I have 2 small fans just zip tied to the vent wired direct to the battery (fused at the battery) then running through a simple voltage regulator so I can adjust the fan speeds as required. This helps to keep the fridge cooler as the fans such air in through the bottom vent , over the back of the fridge and exhaust the hot air through the top vent.

Check the 12V heater element.
But rememebr the 12V element is a minimal heat source and generally won't make the fridge cold. The best you van expect is for it is to keep the fridge cold when travelling.
Use 240V in a parlk and Gas when camped without 240V power.
Cheers, Ozjohn.

If you bought it second hand it may have had a "stop fridge" unit fitted which will stop the fridge after van has stopped for 3 minutes or thereabouts.

Other than that your wiring might be too light.

I have found a couple of these fridges with faulty contacts on the 12/240 switch remove all power and take plastic cover off switch and make sure the contacts are pushed into the plastic holder all the way so they rub on the operating cams . The contacts are only jammed into the plastic and held by a tang on the metal strip

Agree with OzJohno that most you can expect is to keep the unit cold. We have a new unit and thats all we get on 12 volts. Works great on gas and 240 but hopeless on 12 volts. Have fitted H/Duty wire etc but the unit will only maintain temp if already cold so I guess it's doing it's job.

Thanks everyone, have tried everything and it all checks out OK, connected the DC heater to the anderson plug on the car and it also is OK. Cleaned all terminals as they were looking pretty grotty and refitted them, hope that clears it up.
will be going down the coast next week to check it out.
Thanks again
