Waeco CF-80 Problems

Hey all,

Just bought a Waeco CF-80 from a local camping store. Granted it was the one of the floor I got it at a good price.
However it seems that it is one of those too good to be true situations.
I left it over the weekend to see how it would run but after 2 days it still had not cooled down.
Also when plugged in the fan starts up and then does not turn off, even when switched off.

Wondering if anyone else has had this problem or has some advice???

Mate, just take it back and then buy a Bushman or an engel.

as others have said -- take it back - clearly still under warranty -- I am having the same issue with mine -- but mine is about 5 years old now - takes forever to get cool and will drain my car battery in less than a day -- presume it needs regassing ... would be interested in hearing of what the problem with your one is if they will not replace but rather choose to repair ...

if its classed as a whitegood - according to Dept of fair trading they must replace the item or have a service man come to your house to repair ( not you go to them ) may have updated since last time i checked - but had an item replaced after i quoted this section from the department of fair trading after they tried to tell me i had to pay for post back to them as it was there policy ( but not by Australian law which overrides there store policy :)

Had my CF-80 now for nearly eight years with no problem (ran the first three years not being turned off) and it gets a hammering in the back of my car now.
Also have an Engel that was a prize, would not pay for one, quality in my opinion is poor, check out the hinges for a start compared to your Waeco.
Just take it back and get another, no good looking for some miracle on the forum if its not cold after a couple of hours. A fan running with no power ? sounds like your on to some new power source in the universe.

Not sure if this is the model but some have a battery within so they can be used as stand alone for a few hours.
I have had a 110 litre for 6 years and a 80 litre for about 3 years, both have bounced around in the back of the cruiser and apart from one latch on the 110 never had a problem.
A mate has had a big Engel has never had any issues either.
Bought both at the factory seconds shop at Waeco on the Gold Coast, better than new as they have had a problem and been back through their workshop and tested until perfect or a slight inperfection in the case.
Regards

That is not good - I assume you are running it on 240V through the 24V rectifier! When wired to 12V, the rectifier auto switches between 240 & 12 when you turn the 240V off.

WAECO 24V Rectifier

On 240v and set on freeze it should start freezing (ice on the freezer wall) in less than an Hour. I always set it to freeze when running on 240V and during the day when I have the 200w solar connected to it. At night I turn it down to 4 lights as they are a hungry unit.

The fan should shut off once you turn the unit off, the internal light will still work though.

So if it is not working take it back and get the refund, it will not be worth the effort. Mine has given me 5 years trouble free operation (No trouble with the fridge, just trouble keeping power up to it)

:-) Cheers Tony
