hi all,
just wondering if it is possible to connect a solar panel and regulator via Andersen plug for the purposes of recharging a battery? is this efficient enough? the battery will be stowed away in a compartment in a campervan (coromal family 400) so i figure using an existing lead to connect the panels and charger would be the simplest means to do so. already have the panels (borrowed), yet to buy the regulator (have a couple in mind) and already have the battery charger in the van (came with it).
am i missing something here - is this TOO simple to be true?? 'cos failing that, i'd have to run another set of leads of some sort, from somewhere which will likely be untidy and i'm keen to avoid that if i can.
any advice/feedback appreciated.
cheers
mike

No worries. I have been using em for ages. HOWEVER keep leads as short as possible, buy a mppt type regulator and keep plugs clean (purchase a dust cap).
Should have no worries

Yes from me and I don't use a dust cover as the contacts are self cleaning, mud could be a problem.

thanks Meggs.
another question that springs to mind - can i take the same approach to recharging my Century Yuasa wet cell (maint free) deep cycle battery - if i have a Cole Hersey manual isolator installed??
will sending a charge "back down" the car's Andersen wiring mess with the isolator or alternator? or should i use clamps directly onto the terminals instead?

Yes it will be OK but you will need some decent solar panels as most of your charging daily will be to top up the van battery.

I use Anderson plugs for everything including Solar panel, Inverter and Charging off car.
As I have two plugs, one direct from battery on campertrailer and one at front of the draw bar I also use them to power 12 volt accessories.
